It began on an ordinary day with a phone call from the Daybreak LifeCare Center nurse. She called to ask if I could speak with a Hispanic client who had reached out to Daybreak. Because the nurse didn’t speak Spanish, I was asked to serve as a bridge of communication and a source of comfort for our Spanish-speaking client.

During that first call, even without being physically in the room with her, the weight of her fear was unmistakable over the phone line. She confessed to me that she wanted an abortion. Her reasons seemed practical to her: her other children were already fully grown adults, and she simply felt she couldn’t start all over again. Beyond the exhaustion of raising a newborn, she was terrified because of her age. At 40 years old, she believed a pregnancy posed too high a medical risk.

As we spoke, she shared that she was already the mother of three young men. In that exact moment, I felt the Holy Spirit guide my words. Over the phone, I gently asked her a question that cut straight through her fear: "Why not give this baby the exact same opportunity to be born that you gave to your other three children?" Then, I added a whisper of hope, "And who knows? This could be your little girl."

That question — completely guided by God — shifted everything. By the end of our conversation, she agreed to take the next step. We scheduled her for an ultrasound the following week to determine how far along she was in her pregnancy.

At the start of the sonogram, the room filled with a sound that changed everything: the rapid, steady heartbeat of her preborn baby. The nurse confirmed the wonderful news that the pregnancy appeared to be progressing normally.

But the miracle had already been taking root in her heart since our first contact. She looked at us and confessed that she had spent the entire week thinking deeply about our phone conversation. The words God had guided me to speak had echoed in her mind during her days of doubt. With tears of relief and clarity, she announced her decision: she was going to choose life and have her baby. Hearing those words, we at Daybreak were filled with absolute, overwhelming joy! We celebrated together as a team, praising God for the way He weaves our efforts together to protect the vulnerable.

A few weeks later, during a routine prenatal check-up, the family received a beautiful surprise. The moment the mother stepped out of the appointment, she immediately called me, her voice overflowing with excitement, to tell me the news: she was having a baby girl! The moment was so filled with wonder that her husband kept asking the nurse to double-check, laughing in pure disbelief after being a father to three boys for so long.

Throughout the entire journey, God protected this family perfectly. The mother experienced a smooth, textbook pregnancy with no complications. Standing faithfully by her side through doctor’s visits and every moment of worry was her husband, who served as an unshakeable pillar of support, love, and protection for both his wife and his preborn daughter. Today, the entire family is filled with absolute happiness.

This beautiful, healthy baby girl has been born, and she recently visited Daybreak so we could hold her and see the miracle firsthand.

When our donors invest in the ministry of Daybreak, they are funding the phone lines and the staff that God uses to intercept despair with life-saving truth. Because of your generosity, a mother found hope in the midst of uncertainty, a father’s heart was filled with absolute awe, a family was unified in joy, and a precious, long-awaited little girl is smiling in the world today.

Thank you for making these modern-day miracles possible.

Honoring Sabrina Benton:

A Legacy of Love and Service

Sabrina Benton, longtime Coordinator of Taylor’s Boutique, retired in the summer of this year after more than ten years of dedicated service to Daybreak LifeCare Center, including six years as an unpaid volunteer. Reflecting on her early years at Daybreak, Sabrina shared, “I had the pleasure and privilege of being a part of what is now the baby boutique.” Under her leadership, Daybreak’s baby boutique grew into the beautiful, welcoming shop that Taylor’s Boutique is today, providing mothers and fathers with the joy of shopping for their babies and selecting much-needed items at no cost.

The boutique holds a special place in Sabrina’s heart. In October 2016, Daybreak’s Board of Directors named the baby boutique Taylor’s Boutique in loving memory of her daughter, Taylor Ann Benton, who went home to be with the Lord in December 2015 at the age of 24. Taylor loved children and had dreamed of one day owning a boutique of her own. Naming Daybreak’s baby boutique in her honor was a beautiful way to celebrate her life and carry forward her dream.

Sabrina is the wife of Daybreak Board Chair Eddie Benton, mother of three children, and grandmother of two. In retirement, she looks forward to traveling, spending more time with family, and enjoying her many hobbies and interests.

Daybreak is deeply grateful for Sabrina’s years of faithful service, her loving dedication to the families we serve, and the lasting legacy she has helped create through Taylor’s Boutique.

Welcoming Hannah Rimmer to the Daybreak Staff

Hannah Rimmer

Taylor's Boutique Coordinator

"And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

"In a time of religious hypocrisy and widespread injustice, the prophet Micah calls God’s people to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before the Lord. Scripture makes clear that God does not desire empty sacrifices or good works done with hollow hearts, but our whole hearts expressed through lives that reflect His character. Though true justice and lasting peace will ultimately come when Christ returns as our righteous King, we are still called to pursue justice and care for the poor, vulnerable, and oppressed in the meantime."

It's almost time for one of Daybreak's favorite fall competitions! Our 4th Annual Diaper Bowl: Dollars for Diapers kicks off November 1 and runs through midnight on November 30. But there's no need to wait until kickoff — you can begin supporting your favorite team today!

Supporting mothers who choose life for their babies requires many resources, including LOTS of diapers! Once again, we're inviting Gamecock and Tiger fans to participate in a friendly competition to help replenish our diaper supply.

The Gamecocks have claimed victory in all three previous Diaper Bowls! Will they make it four in a row, or will the Tigers take the title this year?

Funds raised through the Diaper Bowl will be used to purchase diapers from EveryLife, a Christian, pro-life diaper company whose values align with Daybreak's mission.
