Operation Pretty Things: Partner of the Month
Oct is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Take Back the Night: October 14; 6:30-8 PM
The statistics are astounding: 1 in 3 women will be a victim of domestic violence, intimate partner violence or sexual assault in her lifetime. OPT's Missy Bennett knows this statistic doesn't discriminate and is a committed collaborator with her fellow partners whose clients may be victims, as well. Watch this video to understand more about Missy's mission and passion to serve.
Her ONE Gala is behind her, but Missy is always seeking donations, such as her $25/month Hope Sponsor program. She'll soon be turning her attention to the Annual Fall Pretty Things Drive, and booking OPT Parties throughout October and November. COVID safe and loads of fun, these parties are essential to Missy's goal: to give gift bags with personal beauty and skincare products to women in shelters in 18 counties throughout NC, and in NY, FL and GA. So far this year, Missy provided gifts and services for nearly 400 women and children; her goal this year is 1000. Help her by shopping her wish list at Amazon and Target. Every gift is for a woman who is sheltering during the Christmas holidays.

“The truest measure of love is revealed by how we respond to the needs of others. The desire to give and serve others stems from a place of earnest compassion. People with hearts to serve and love to give….that’s what you will find at the Harrelson Center. Even just one person receiving your kindness has the capacity to impact the world we live in! We don’t need to save the world. We need to love each other, and let God use that love to heal our broken hearts” ~ Missy Bennett, OPT Exec. Dir.

Hope Takes Flight
In honor of and admiration for his dear friends, Bobby Harrelson and the late Jo Ann Carter Harrelson, Kyle McIntyre, a believer in the purpose and impact of The Harrelson Center, has generously provided our campus with a stunning sculpture of our dove logo that now has a properly inspired name - Hope. Kyle turned to talented and experienced welder, Glen Davis, who beautifully rendered the Harrelson Center vision of Hope in steel. Hope measures approximately 8 feet tall, 12 feet wide, and 2,500 lbs. Majestic, beautiful and glossy white, Hope won’t get lost at the corner of Market and Fourth Streets. Thank you to Glen, and to Derrick Shelor with his precision painting, and especially to Kyle for this impressive and heartwarming monumental welcome to all, a true and solid reminder of love and friendship, and our purpose and commitment to the people of our community.
