“If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production.” - Pete Seeger | | SUMMER SUNDAYS —through September 6 | | |
Join us in the air-conditioned chapel, followed by lemonade on the lawn, to reflect on the stories of miracles, signs and wonders in Matthew’s Gospel. Join us in person or online.

Expenses related to the good works of our beloved church and our aging campus are higher than ever.
➡️ Right now, we need to replace the church's boiler, repair the organ following last summer’s lightning strike, clean the carpets and do additional maintenance around the campus after heavy rains and flooding.
These are costly projects that our operating budget cannot absorb.
Please consider additional gifts to cover these expenses. The money you give makes a difference; all amounts, large and small, are welcome. For questions about giving, please contact Stewardship Chair Kay McCoy.

The Social Justice / Faith In Action Committee is collaborating with Temple Beth Shalom in Hastings and organizing a nonpartisan rides-to-the-polls program to help eligible registered voters, especially seniors and those with mobility challenges, get to the polls during early voting and on Election Day. Please fill out this form by August 31 so we can gauge the level of interest from South Church members. Register to vote | Check your polling place

South’s Deacons and members of the Roots & Wings committee—the sustainability initiative of South Church—recently gathered to (re)start the conversation about how our church can move toward becoming a zero-waste facility.
Our monthly Soup Sunday is already a wonderful example of making the most of our resources. By using our porcelain plates, stainless steel cutlery, and commercial-quality dishwasher, we avoid generating landfill waste. The group discussed ways to compost our food scraps, improve our recycling practices, and reduce our use of single-use items as we continue working toward a more sustainable future.
To join this conversation, please contact Lenore.

Thank you Anne Day for leading the organizing and decluttering initiative in South's kitchen and other storage areas. Shout outs to Duke and Linda Jo for helping to scrub the old shelving units and assemble them upstairs; to Peter, Molly, Robin and Linda Jo for helping on clean up day, sorting items into Keep, Store Upstairs and Donate piles on tables in Fellowship Hall; to Doug and Liz for helping organize items on shelves upstairs; and to Laura for helping to organize and label shelves. Your work is a gift to all of our upcoming gatherings.
Still to do in the kitchen: clean and organize the coffee/beverage station, and even create a nice place for the worship decor potted plants so they can get light and water on weekdays. Want in? Contact Anne here.
