Wind elementals! Water elementals! Fire elementals! And wood ticks. It's been a heck of a month, especially when most of it is experienced in six-second increments.

Time to return to your favourite merchant to replenish your supplies.

You are welcomed by name as you enter the modest castle, and your gaze lands on a whole host of beautiful New Things. You check your on-hand wealth and see that you have more than enough for your trail rations and health potions.

And a sparkly New Thing or two. As a treat.

Game of the Week: Rummoli Deluxe

Rummoli. If you've played it, you know. It's a time-worn, family-ruining, smelly-hands, shouty, gambling favourite.

You play it by dealing out cards (with a dummy hand which you don't use each round) and by paying a token (or a penny or a nickel or a quarter, if you're nuts) into each of the spaces on the board, which represent specific cards or runs of cards (ten of spades, king of hearts, a run of 7-8-9 in any one suit... and, important to our story, the king and ace of diamonds). Then whoever has the two of spades puts it down and everyone plays a card in order in the same suit until nobody can play a higher card, at which point that player plays their next lowest card in any suit and it follows. Once someone empties the cards from their hand, the round is over, the prizes are collected and you start again. It sounds so basic, and it is. But it's a fantastic lake game or after dinner game. We used to play it on Christmas Eve.

But here's a short story about my mum. When my mum was 8 years old, her family sat down to play a game of Rummoli. The game went along and the high-value pots (usually the 7-8-9 sequence and king-ace of diamonds) had accumulated massive amounts of coin. When little Debbie looked at the hand she was dealt, she was ecstatic to see that she'd received a BOON: the king of diamonds and the ace of diamonds. That pot was hers! She waited patiently for the spades to be played through and for the diamond run to be started. Two of diamonds, three of diamonds, four of diamonds... her time had almost come! Someone played the Jack of diamonds and she waited. And she waited. And nobody played the queen, so it was on to another suit. Someone played all of the cards in their hand and she missed her chance at the enormous jackpot of pennies. Her older brother would later collect it. It's important to note that this happened sixty-one years ago and she's STILL jammed up about it!

If you want to make long-lasting memories of heartbreak and having your hands smell like a twentieth-century slot machine, pick up a fantastic game that was invented 83 years ago today, because it is this week's GAME OF THE WEEK! From Friday, June 22nd to Thursday, June 29th, our Deluxe Rummoli will be 20% off while stock lasts.

Indie RPG Restocks? Yes Please!

Do you ever feel like what your life is missing is an adventure with your friends where you built a janky flying machine from bits you found lying around at the Junkyard? "Close" you say, "But I wish we were a bunch of raccoons also." Then maybe Raccoon Sky PIrates is the game for you.

Maybe you like the chaos and the jank (the sweet, sweet jank) but you're allergic to raccoons, and don't really like heights. Maybe the game for you is Goblin Errands! You and your friends do your best to run some errands to help out your community, but you're goblins, so things never really go to plan.

Looking for something a bit more serious? What about Dialect: A Game About Language And How It Dies? In Dialect players work together to slowly add new words to their dialect, building it up over generations, and then in the end decide how their language dies.

There's more that we got in, but three is enough to make it feel like a proper list, so you'll just have to come on down (Or check our website) to find out what else we've got!

Special Event: Hobby Workshop: Bunker Down!

This month's hobby workshop will feature the building of a military bunker, an entrenched position from which soldiers can fire out while being protected against return fire. Each participant will receive all the materials they need to build and paint a bunker as well as the expertise of our hobbyist host, Craig Pauls. You'll be amazed at what you can do with a little know how!

This workshop is fantastic for beginners who have little to no experience painting miniatures or building terrain.

I think it's some of the best fun you can have for the price, only $5 for hours of fun crafting with guidance to help you actually start.

Upcoming Event: HOT BOARDGAME SUMMER

School is almost out, and we've got something great coming down the pipe.

For all of July, Monday through to Thursday, you can come down to GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff and use our gaming tables to play board games (ones you bring from home or any of our selection of rental games) until 5:00 p.m. FOR FREE.

Bring the kids and come down to learn your next favourite game! We'll see you July 3rd.

I don't know any of these people, I guess I need to start watching New Japan Pro Wrestling!

Is there much overlap between game store customers and Japanese Pro Wrestling fans? I guess we find out this week.

Turns out that y'all prefer waffles to pancakes (I'm not surprised, first thing I did when I saw last weeks newsletter was confront the author of that newsletter about their hot-cake hot take.) Only one person voted for liking neither, which makes me wonder, what's your breakfast of choice?

Reviews make the world go 'round.

You know how when you go a place, Google asks you on your phone how it was and suggests that you leave a review? "Ooh, you're an important LoCaL gUiDe!" Sure.

Buuuuuut... your local small businesses really do love it when you take the time to tell them that you appreciate them.

Think of it as a little gift. A reward for us doing a good job. And consider leaving that review!

(Also, did you know that Google also sometimes sends things to people who leave a lot of reviews? I got a pair of socks from them once!)

Restocks and New Things!

This week we have for you: A big restock on Playing cards (Also some we haven't had before, I picked a up a pack of Bicycle Aviary Cards, can't resist good bird art) We got a big restock on Exit games as well (Perfect for those weekends away) as well as Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right (Everyone's favorite game of ruthless, yet cute woodland creatures)
