Electric rates for Denton customers are going up, just four months after last hike

After a City Council vote Tuesday night, the average Denton Municipal Electric residential customer will see their electric bill go up about $7 next month, to nearly $140, according to city officials, who cited rising energy costs in Texas.

The Denton Police Department has received a second "soft" interview room aimed at empowering sexual assault survivors to feel like they matter as they work with investigators. 

Business: Savagely unhealthy housing market takes toll on Denton home sales


Denton's housing market is facing stagflation this summer. Home sales in Denton dropped 26% year-over-year in June, and pending contracts fell 21%. Plus, rent prices are also rising and the Justice Department is investigating RealPage for rent inflation. 

Education: North Texas schools have more unhoused students — and their needs are costly


North Texas school districts are seeing an increase in students experiencing homelessness. Students who lack access to stable housing are eligible for services through their schools under the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act, but a Dallas ISD administrator said those funds have been cut by $100,000.

Spectrum is expected to provide high-speed broadband services to about 3,700 Lantana homes by next spring. Jimmy McCullough, Spectrum area vice president, said via email that Spectrum will first begin to add its service to about 700 homes by the end of the year.
