JOIN THE BLUE DOT PROJECT
with IEB
Hello Indivisible North East Bay, friends of Democracy,
On this post No Kings day, I wanted to invite you to a party celebrating HOPE. I know it sounds cheesy and maybe even impossible, but I promise you will leave energized and hopeful.
Early in 2025, a few of us in IEB began The Blue Dot Project–cold calling Indivisible groups in red states to connect and offer assistance. One of the groups who enthusiastically responded were a mother and daughter team, Heather and Leila Staton in rural Iowa, aka The Insufferable Wenches. Fast forward to today, and Leila is running for state house office in the November election. Endorsed by Run for Something and Next Gen Politics, Leila is the type of person we want to see taking on this reddest rural area (in her own words, here’s why she’s running). Attention is on this formerly purple state which recently lost its super majority, and both heavyweight fundraisers Movement Voter Project and Flip the Vote are all in on Iowa. Leila has knocked on over 500 doors (these doors were actual voters who are spread far apart) and every person except two, has said she has their vote.
If you’re like me and you’re worried about (waves hands) the state of the world, let’s start small and local by supporting Leila to build the movement we need. And I want you to meet her in West Contra Costa County: in El Sobrante on Tue, Apr 21, or Kensington on Wed, Apr 22, and see for yourself. Along with my two friends Chris (Indivisible West Contra Costa County) and Becky (Indivisible Kensington), we are doing a thing we have never done and are hosting a house party. Support for Leila will go muuuuuch further in Iowa than in California and I can’t wait to have you meet this charming, inspiring and deeply intelligent young woman.
Leila recorded a message for us after helping to organize Cedar Valley, Iowa’s, thousand-plus No Kings rally last weekend.
You can follow her on socials (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads) and come to one of the house parties. For less than the cost of two poke bowls, you can buy a ticket before April 17th.
