April 10, 2026

Dear Residents,

There’s plenty to keep you busy this weekend in Orangetown.

Tomorrow, stop by Town Hall between 8 am and 11:30 am for the Semi-Annual Shredding Event. This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of documents you no longer need. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to support our local food pantries.

Then head over to the Great American Clean-Up, a community clean-up held in partnership with the Tappan Fire Department. Sign-in begins at 9:30 am at the firehouse at 300 Western Highway, Tappan NY. Volunteers will be treated to breakfast before the cleanup, and lunch after, courtesy of the Tappan Fire Department. It is a wonderful way to give back and help keep Orangetown beautiful.

On Sunday, don’t miss the first Nyack Street Fair of the season. Taking place from 10 am to 5 pm along Main Street and Broadway in Nyack, this popular event features vendors, food, music, and plenty of community spirit—rain or shine.

Be advised that the ramp from Route 9W in South Nyack to the southbound New York State Thruway (I-87) will be closed until 6 am on April 11 due to scheduled maintenance. Drivers are encouraged to follow all posted detour signs and plan for additional travel time.

Enjoy the weekend—I hope to see you out and about!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

The New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee’s “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign will take place April 9 through April 13, 2026.

During this statewide enforcement initiative, officers will be actively looking for drivers who are using handheld electronic devices behind the wheel. 📱🚫

Distracted driving is dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk. A quick glance at your phone can have lasting consequences.

👮‍♂️ What you need to know:

  • Handheld device use while driving is illegal in New York State
  • Violations can result in fines, points on your license, and increased insurance rates
  • Enforcement will be increased during this campaign period

✅ Stay safe:

  • Put your phone away before driving
  • Use hands-free devices if necessary
  • Keep your focus on the road at all times

Let’s work together to keep our roads safe.
