Dear District 1 and Friends,

If you have not already heard, District 1 filed budget amendments to restore $3.8 million in requested schools funding and support multi-year contracts for educator salaries. While other County departments are appropriating 4-5% salary increases, teacher pay increases are falling behind despite a state mandate to start teacher salaries at $60K by fiscal year 2027.

During the Council’s budget adoption vote tomorrow, May 22 at 12pm, Councilwoman Walsh will be voting in favor of these amendments. But we need votes from two other Councilmembers, and you can help. Email or call the County Council before 12pm tomorrow urging members to:

"𝙑𝙊𝙏𝙀 ‘𝙔𝙀𝙎’ on amendments to improve proposed educator pay: amendments 10, 11, and 12 to CB27 and amendment 1 to CR48."

Email councilmail@howardcountymd.gov or call 410-313-2001. It helps if you specifically mention your Councilmember and ask for them to vote in support.

Thank you for your advocacy and engagement. As always, feel free to contact us with questions or concerns!
