RWU 8th Biennial Convention Wrap Up
RWU 8th Biennial Convention
June 16th & 17th - Chicago, IL
The Railroad Workers United 8th Biennial Convention was a huge success, and enabled, for the first time in four years, our membership to convene in person since our 6th Convention in 2018. (Due to Covid-19 pandemic, we conducted an abbreviated 7th Biennial Convention in the spring of 2020 via Zoom online). While a number of members were unable to attend due to worker shortages, harsh availability policies, Covid-19, and other health issues, we achieved a critical mass of RWU members, solidarity members, and guests to make for an exciting and dynamic gathering.

Membership renewals are up this year along with new membership applications and interest in RWU. As a result, we were easily able to expand our Steering Committee back to its traditional size of 11 members. In addition, we expanded the number of Steering Committee Alternates to five from the traditional three. Together with the three Trustees, the leadership now amounts to 19 total members, drawn from the ranks of five different unions from nine carriers, from 15 states with seniority ranging from three years to more than 42.

Once the RWU Convention adjourned Friday evening, most of the participants stayed on for the weekend of Labor Notes activities where we were joined by more than 4000 mostly young trade union activists from around the country. See the highlights below.
