Adopted FY 2026 - 2030 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)

Last Wednesday, the MPO Board adopted the FY 2026-2030 Transportation Improvement Program. The adopted FY 2026 - FY 2030 TIP includes $126.068 Million for bridges, $80.935 million for resurfacing, and $56.83 million for new capacity projects in Indian River County. Major projects include the widening of CR510, replacement of the Sebastian Inlet causeway (SR A1A), and a complete street retrofit of 45th Street between 43rd Avenue and 58th Avenue. This year's TIP includes a new Appendix B which identifies funding by scope code!

Announcing the MPO's 2025 List of Priority Projects (LOPP)

Planning for and producing the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a year long effort. It begins in earnest with the yearly adoption of the List of Priority Projects (LOPP). These adopted priorities will shape funding allocations made by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) as they prepare the draft tentative work program later this year.

This year's LOPP includes many of the previous year's priorities including the Complete Street retrofit of 45th Street between 58th Ave and 43rd Ave (#1 highway priority). Yet, new projects have also been added to the LOPP. These projects include the widening of CR-512 between I-95 and downtown Fellsmere (#1 regional priority) and 16 new bicycle/pedestrian projects. These bike/ped projects were selected from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan update adopted last fall.

Bike Rodeos - "Round Up" a year of safety lessons in review

During the last school year, members of MPO staff along with volunteers from Bike Walk Indian River County (BWIRC) conducted week long bicycle and pedestrian safety classes at 7 local elementary schools. Over the course of the year, the MPO and our plethora of volunteers taught, fit, and gifted helmets to 1,144 fourth and fifth graders across the county. This latest season of Bike Rodeos continues efforts dating back to the safe routes to school program started over 15 years ago. Since the roll out of the safe routes to school program no children have been killed commuting to school by walking or biking.

The program is taught in three parts. It begins with a classroom style presentation where students are taught what they should wear for a bike ride, how to ensure their bicycle is safe to ride, where to ride, and the rules of the road. The second part of the program includes the fitting and disbursement of helmets provided by FDOT to each student. Finally, once the students are fitted with a helmet a practical road course finishes out the program.

The Bike Rodeo program is a community effort and would not be a reality without the dedication of members of BWIRC. The MPO wants to highlight a few folks for their continued support:

  • Angel Arrieta
  • Rebecca Barnhouse
  • Catherine Beckmann
  • Churchill Cooke
  • Jack Courtemanche
  • Dawn Grant
  • Susan Hanerfeld
  • David Hunter
  • Mark Ivkovich
  • Linda Jennings
  • Dave and Leslie Jones
  • Joan Kriss
  • Hal Lambert
  • Janice McGrath
  • Jim Popma
  • Doug and Jan Smith

These folks enabled the success of the Bike Rodeo program this school year. We here at the MPO could not have served as many students without you all. Thank you all for your commitment to safety and the kiddos!

Notice of Traffic Shift: Interstate I-95

• As part of the SR 9/I-95 at County Road (CR) 606/Oslo Road New Interchange and CR 606/Oslo Road Widening Project, crews will implement a traffic shift by reducing the three-lane section of SR 9/I-95 in each direction to one lane between Indrio Road (Exit 138) and SR 60/20th Street (Exit 147). This lane reduction will occur nightly from Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., through Monday, June 30, to facilitate deck pours. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained via two constructed crossover lanes to facilitate the traffic shift. This reduction is necessary to safely perform roadway work and deck pours. If weather or unforeseen circumstances occur, the shifts will continue through Thursday, July 3.

• Northbound motorists on SR 9/I-95 will be shifted to the southbound lanes at CR 606/Oslo Road bridge via a newly constructed crossover lane when deck pours are being set over the northbound lanes.

• Southbound motorists on SR 9/ I-95 will be shifted to the northbound lanes at CR 606/Oslo Road bridge via the newly constructed crossover lane when deck pours are being set over the southbound lanes.

• To ensure motorist and crew safety, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 MPH to 35 MPH. The Florida Highway Patrol will be onsite, and signage will be in place to assist motorists.
