Celebrating Our Summer Students

This summer, Josh, Akshaya and Ella brought their energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to Community Care as our Summer Students. Their contributions supported important projects, helped strengthen our digital presence and even helped us identify new ways to work more efficiently.

To recognize their hard work and dedication, each student was recently presented with a Shining Star Award.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything they brought to our team this summer and are thrilled that they’ll be continuing with Community Care in a casual capacity. Congratulations, Josh, Akshaya and Ella!

Do you have a Community Care staff member, volunteer, or board member who has made a difference in your life?

Let them know how much they mean to you by nominating them for a Shining Star Award.

Your nomination is a meaningful way to recognize someone who has gone above and beyond, and it also helps support the Community Care Foundation and its work to enhance Community Care’s programs and services.

Nominate your Shining Star today at https://ccckl.ca/shining-star/ and help us celebrate the people who make our community shine!

When Care Becomes Family

For Peter and his wife, Heather, Community Care’s Transportation Services became about much more than getting to and from dialysis appointments.

When Peter needed kidney dialysis three times a week, Community Care drivers became a familiar and caring part of his routine. Over time, they learned his favourite song, helped with the little things, and became, in Heather’s words, “like family.”

Even after Peter passed away, one driver stopped by Heather’s home simply to check in on her. It was a small gesture that meant so much and showed Heather that the relationships built through care can last beyond the service itself.

Today, Heather is a Luminary Circle monthly donor, giving back to an organization that was there for her and Peter when they needed it most. Her story is a beautiful reminder of how monthly giving can help make moments of care possible for people and families throughout our community.

Read Peter and Heather’s full story at https://ccckl.ca/peter-and-heather/ and learn more about the Luminary Circle and how you can make a monthly gift.

Suicide Awareness Day

On Thursday, September 10, members of our community gathered at Old Mill Park to recognize Suicide Awareness Day and remember loved ones.

The gathering included poems, music and moments of reflection, followed by the placing of carnations in the river as a tribute to those who have been lost. It was a meaningful opportunity to come together, remember, and help reduce the stigma surrounding suicide.

Hospice Services offers opportunities for connection and support for individuals and families as they navigate their own grief journeys. To learn more or connect with a member of our Hospice Services team, visit www.ccckl.ca/hospice or call 705-324-7323 ext. 550.
