Project Update: Collins Canal Water Main Improvements

Notice Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2026

What's Happening

The contractor has scheduled a pipe pullback for tomorrow evening, May 27, 2026 beginning at approximately 7 p.m. Pipe pullback is a continuous operation that must proceed without interruption once it begins and will continue until the full length of pipe is in place.

In preparation for this work, crews will be joining the pipe sections together tonight, May 26, 2026, in front of the Miami Beach Senior High School to create the continuous length needed for installation.

A small work zone will be established on the greenspace in front of the high school. All activities have been planned to minimize disruption to the surrounding area, and the school entrance will remain fully open. Access will not be blocked during school hours tomorrow. Although all activities are planned to minimize disruption, please know that some noise may occur during these operations.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic management for this phase includes a partial westbound lane closure on 22 Street, just west of Park Ave. Additionally, select parking spaces within the work zone will be temporarily unavailable during this phase.

Timeline

Regular construction activity is permitted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please know that this project is anticipated to take approximately four months to complete, barring any unforeseen delays or circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Moderate levels of construction noise are expected during work activities.
  • Partial sidewalk closures throughout the construction zone will be in place. Please follow all posted signage.
  • Access to the Valero gas station will be maintained at all times.
  • Select parking spaces adjacent to each work zone will be temporarily unavailable.
  • Machinery and workers will be present on the job site. Residents and visitors are advised to use caution when crews are present and to follow all posted signage.

Project Overview & Benefits

The City of Miami Beach began improvements on two subaqueous water mains that cross the Collins Canal just south of Dade Boulevard between 22 and 23 Streets.

The project involves replacing two inactive yet essential subaqueous water mains with new, larger‑diameter pipelines designed to improve system capacity and support long‑term infrastructure needs. Once completed, the upgraded mains will provide increased flow to meet the city’s growing demand and enhance water distribution throughout the surrounding area.
