Courtyard House: An Award-Winning Darien Residence

Courtyard House receives three 2026 HOBI Awards, recognizing its architectural vision, thoughtfully designed outdoor living environment, and exceptional pool house.

We are pleased to share that Courtyard House, a ground-up custom residence in Darien, Connecticut, has received three 2026 HOBI Awards, presented by the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut.

John Ruddy Builders was recognized in the following categories:

• Best Custom Home | 10,000–15,000 SF
• Best Outdoor Living Environment
• Outstanding Poolhouse

Conceived around a central courtyard, Courtyard House explores the relationship between architecture, interior architecture, and landscape. A strong visual axis connects the entry to the principal living spaces, courtyard, and pool house, while expansive glazing and a transparent breezeway establish a fluid transition between interior and exterior environments.

Within the residence, tailored millwork, natural materials, dynamic lighting, and refined detailing create a layered material palette that balances understated sophistication with everyday comfort.

We are proud to see this collaborative effort recognized and congratulate John Ruddy Builders and the entire project team on these distinctions.

Additional Recognition | 2026 CTC&G Innovation in Design Awards

Courtyard House was also named a finalist in the Interior Design category of the 2026 Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Innovation in Design Awards. The project was submitted by Christian Rae Studio in collaboration with Colleen Siddig, recognizing the thoughtful materiality, detailing, and integrated design approach that define the residence.
