Throughout our lives, we often face changes—seasons, aging, relocation, career shifts—that can be uncomfortable. Then, there are catastrophic changes like cancer, dementia, divorce, or the death of a loved one, each presenting unique challenges. But what do you do when your entire life changes overnight? When your home is destroyed in a few hours, your daily routines are forever disrupted, and entire communities disappear?
At J.M. Teague Engineering & Planning (JMTE), we are striving to persevere with a spirit of hope and care reborn in each of us. Our region is currently experiencing these profound changes as the tragedy of Hurricane Helene unfolds daily. With only faith, hope, and love remaining, we are working to feed, clothe, and provide shelter to anyone in need. We are committed to consoling, caring, and fostering ongoing relationships to facilitate healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
The team at JMTE has survived the storm with comparatively minor issues, for which we are thankful. We will continue to serve you, our clients, to the best of our ability despite the limited communications we are experiencing. We are in the process of contacting you to assess your current projects and future needs. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
We are grateful for your thoughts and prayers and ask that you consider joining us in serving our region. Here are a couple of local organizations you might consider supporting financially. While items of comfort are appreciated, the initial response has been overwhelming, making staging and distribution challenging. These are four of the many organizations throughout the southeast working to help those affected by Hurrican Helene. These entities, and many more, can use your donation to support those serving every day on the front lines of this disaster.
The United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is helping with Hurricane Helene relief. If you go to their website, www.unitedwayabc.org, there is a link right at the top to take you to Hurricane Helene information. The page has daily updates on what is happening in the area involving the hurricane. It also has the ways to help broken down into sections such as shelters, medical resources, water and food resources, as well as just general ways to help out. Below that are buttons to donate to the Buncombe Hurricane Relief Fund as well as a button to sign up to volunteer with the organization.
MANNA Foodbank works to provide resources, logistical support, networking, and other support in times of disaster such as these. They are connected to the national Feeding America network and have access to food pantries across the country. Immediately once you go on their website, www.mannafoodbank.org, there is information about Hurricane Helene explaining where they are working, how you can volunteer, and how you can donate.
Haywood County Schools is accepting donations through the Haywood County Schools Foundation. If you go to their website www.haywood.k12.nc.us there is a link on the front page that will take you to a place where you can donate. You can also call Jenny Wood at 828-550-0550 or email at jwood@haywood.k12.nc.us to talk about donations.
Haywood Christian Ministry is accepting donations through their website https://hcmnc.org. On the front page there are two buttons. The first button will allow you to donate to Haywood Christian Ministries. The second button takes you to the ARISE Recovery Fund with a button underneath that explaining what it is. This acronym stands for Access, Resiliency, Inclusivity, Sustainability, for Everyone. This fund is specifically geared towards allocating resources to overcome this tragedy. On their front-page Haywood Christian Ministry has a place where you can type in your contact information to receive updates on news about Hurricane Helene.
