October 10, 2026

The 6 faith communities of the Shalom Zone, Allisonville Christian Church, Cross & Crown

Lutheran Church, First Friends Meeting, and St. Pius X Catholic Church, The Garden, Metanoia UCC, will once again participate in an access ramp build with the organization, Servants at Work. SAWs is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that builds ramps to provide people with disabilities and conditions of aging with the freedom to remain in their homes and reconnect with their communities.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 8AM to approximately 12PM. No experience is necessary. This is a local ramp build within Marion County. The address will be shared a week prior to the build.

David Tatum will coordinate the registration and share the volunteer link. This is a private build; volunteers cannot register on the SAWs website.

Joys and Concerns

JOYS

  • We celebrate and pray that our youth group had a wonderful, restful, and fun experience on their fall retreat at Pyoca Camp in Brownstown! We ask for safe travels as those 20 youth and 6 adults as they head back to Indianapolis today.
  • This past Sunday, we celebrated CROP HUNGER WALK taking place near the Butler University. Locally, 50% of the money raised in Indianapolis will go to Second Helpings to support their efforts addressing food insecurity. The other half of the funds goes to help the rest of the world where 1in 9 people lack clean water and a healthy diet. This year ACC contributed $500 to help Church World Service build a world where there is enough for all. Next year, if there is interest, we can organize a group from ACC to participate in the actual walk, so get ready!
  • It was wonderful to re-dedicate our church bell this past Sunday, as our congregation’s rich history intersects with the vitality of our present ministry. Our thanks to Scott & Alice Herrin, Mary Hillman, and Richard & Martha Jachowski , whose generosity made this project possible. We also want to thank Kendal Nagy, Dave Stansifer, JD Reed, Dave Tatum, Virgil Price, and others whose efforts were integral to this effort.
  • We extend our congrats to Sam Luke and Katie Simon, who got married in Michigan on Saturday! Needless to say, Jim & Tracy have reveled in this moment and appreciate their church community celebrating with them.

CONCERNS

  • We are sad to share that Mike McDonald passed away last Wednesday after a lengthy hospital stay following open heart surgery. Mike left an indelible mark on ACC through the many ways he served this congregation. Our prayers are with Cindy and Mike’s whole family in this time of great loss. A celebration of life will be held in the ACC Family Room on October 31st.
  • We are also sad to have learned that Marilyn Porter passed away. We send along our condolences to her husband, Calvin, and her daughter, Mary, as they grieve. A celebration of life service will be held for Marilyn on Saturday, October 17 at 10:30am at Central Christian Church.
  • Jane Lawrence was discharged from the hospital and transferred to a rehab center on Tuesday, where she will be for a multiweek stay. Our prayers continue for her recovery.
  • And, as always, we pray for all those in our community facing physical, mental health, family, and financial challenges. We specifically want to pray for Liz Adkins, Don Burrell, Mary Caress, Martha Hofer, Curtis McCollister, and Diana Shockley.
  • Our Global Ministries prayer partner this week is Mexico.

In Case You Missed It
