Stay Healthy During Hot Weather

Take some simple steps to beat the heat this summer and keep yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your pets healthy! Remember to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing, and avoid outside activities during the hottest part of the day, which is from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Cooling down for a few hours daily will allow your body to recover and tolerate the heat better for the rest of the day.

Summer Grad Petition Deadline

Friday, July 4, is the deadline for students to submit their petition to graduate for Summer 2025. To learn more and submit their online associate degree, associate degree for transfer, or certificate petition, refer students to the How to Petition for Graduation webpage.

An Introduction to Contract Grading

đź“… Tuesday, July 1 | 11:00 to 11:30 am - Online

Contract grading aims to redirect students’ attention from points and grades to self-reflection, thoughtful effort, and a respect for the learning process.

With a well-designed grading contract, you’ll no longer hear questions like:

  • “What grade do I need on the final in order to pass the course?”
  • “Do you have any extra credit opportunities?”

This session will provide an overview of grading contracts and how you might implement them in a learning-centered Canvas course.

Using Canvas Quizzes for Low-Stakes Assignments

đź“… Wednesday, July 2 | 11:00 to 11:30 am - Online

Join this quick session to learn some of the advanced features of Canvas Quizzes and how to use the tool for other activities. The Quiz tool in Canvas is great for more than just multiple choice/short answer assessments. This session will cover some of the more advanced settings and tools available for instructors to build quizzes. Many of those features are only available in the Quiz tool, so we will also look at how to rethink worksheets or activities as quizzes in order to better evaluate student learning and inform our teaching.
