Par-Tee Golf Tournament Results

It was a near-perfect day at The Washington National Golf Course on June 15 as we hosted our first, dare we say annual, Golf Tournament Fundraiser. Over 100 golfers teed up to raise money for Birthday Dreams. Among the exciting moments, was the heartbreakingly close hole-in-one at the $25,000 prize hole. Check out this recap video from Jeremy Townsend of Golftics.

The Par-Tee Golf Tournament was a hit, and we are thrilled to announce the event raised $44,679!

A special thanks to our event Co-Chairs, Jenn Warrick and Brandi Martinez, and the amazing golf committee for putting in long hours and a fantastic attention to detail that ensured the event was on par.

A big Birthday Dreams thank you to our amazing event sponsors who made it all possible!

This is Why We Do It

Recently, we were able to help a mother who hardest fight isn't housing, it's her daughter's health. Diagnosed with Trisomy 21, her daughter had open heart surgery at 6 months old; and returned to her community housing on oxygen and the requirement of special care.

The mother's devotion to advocating for her daughter, especially after something as intense as open heart surgery at just six months old, is nothing short of heroic. Giving her that first birthday party wasn't just about cake and balloons; it was a beautiful reclamation of childhood, celebration, and normalcy for a little girl who has already endured so much. Of the party, the mother said, "[My daughter] loved the toys, her cake and seeing the kids come to her first birthday."

With your continued support, we are committed to bringing hope and joy to the community we serve through the gift of a birthday celebration.

Volunteer Spotlight | Andrea Blackburn

Andrea Blackburn learned about Birthday Dreams in March of this year from a King5 news article. Having recently settled into a new community in Seattle, she was looking for a way to connect and give back. Andera was incredibly impressed that Birthday Dreams had helped 17,000 (now 18,000+) children feel celebrated on their birthday. Andrea, who has a love of baking, thought baking cakes that focus on celebrating children felt like a perfect fit!

In addition to baking cakes, Andrea has purchased many birthday gifts and helps with onsite parties. She said, “I enjoy going to the on-site parties at Mary’s Place and celebrating with the children and their families. The children’s energy at the party is infectious and it makes me appreciate all of Birthday Dream’s volunteer efforts. I also enjoy learning about children’s interests (e.g. Minecraft, Bluey) to be able to decorate cakes and pick out gifts that the kids will enjoy.”

Andrea, who has been an amazing asset to our volunteer team, recently stepped into the very important role of volunteer coordinator. To those thinking about volunteering for Birthday Dreams, Andrea said, “There are no shortage of ways to contribute talents and time to Birthday Dreams, if someone is interested in getting involved, they should look into it further, the opportunities are abundant and its well worthwhile.”

A wildlife biologist, Andrea has researched wild orangutans in Indonesia and California condors in Southern California. Currently, she lives in Columbia City in South Seattle with her husband and two cats. She loves being in nature and gardening and is enjoying the beautiful Pacific Northwest scenery and coffee.

Grants

Birthday Dreams' ability to serve our community is heavily reliant on grants from our terrific foundation partners. This month we would like to highlight the financial support from the following organizations which generously awarded us grants in June. Thank you for your support!

  • The Aven Foundation | $5,000

First Interstate Bank Foundation presented Birthday Dreams with a $25,000 check.

Puyallup Tribe of Indians Charity Trust | $5,000

The Rotary Club of Tacoma #8 | $5,000

Tulalip Tribe Charitable Contributions Fund | $5,000

Community Support and Recognition

Birthday Dreams relies on the generosity and dedication of our community partners to make our mission possible. From assembling goody bags, to crafting party hats, to organizing toy drives and so much more — your time, energy, and effort truly make a difference. We appreciate you more than words can express. Thank you!

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

On June 26, 2026, Single Adults from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came together for a conference that included a meaningful hands-on service project. Volunteers packaged friendship bracelet kits for Birthday Dreams and prepared dry goods for the Jewish Family Service Food Bank. Their efforts produced over 200 bracelet kits and more than 800 pounds of food. We’re deeply grateful for the chance to support Birthday Dreams and Jewish Family Service in strengthening our community through service.

Microsoft CSCP

We are so grateful to Mari Kauri for continuing to champion our mission at Microsoft. We truly value this partnership, and being invited back is always such a meaningful compliment. When Mari reached out about organizing an event on short notice, we were happy to make it happen. Her team jumped right in and made birthday party hats, each one designed with thoughtful creativity.

Cambia – Actuary Team, Sales Team

Thank you to Celicia Yeoman, Community Engagement Manager, for continuing to introduce us to teams across Cambia. Last month, members of our Community Events Team joined the Actuary and Sales teams for two fun filled volunteer events where they made birthday party hats and friendship bracelet kits. Cambia also generously donated all the supplies needed for the projects. With their help, birthday parties will be even more festive for children in need to celebrate with family and friends.

Hyatt

Birthday Dreams was thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Women at Hyatt, a group dedicated to creating a culture of diversity and inclusion that empowers people to be their best. Dana McKenzie brought her colleagues together for an afternoon of volunteering, and our Community Events Team was happy to join them. The group made birthday party hats and friendship bracelet kits, adding colorful and festive touches to future birthday celebrations. Their time and creativity will help make these parties even more special for children celebrating with family and friends.

Aljoya Thornton Place

Our partnership with Aljoya has been a true pleasure, and working with the residents at Thornton Place was no exception. Our Community Events Team always enjoys meeting the staff and volunteers who make these events so special. Sara Koenig, Volunteer Coordinator, was so confident the residents would enjoy the project that she purchased enough supplies to make goody bags at two separate events. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

At Birthday Dreams, we believe that every child deserves to feel special on their birthday. We work tirelessly to bring hope, joy, and a sense of self-worth to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. We understand that a birthday party may seem like a small gesture, but to these children, it means the world.

Our parties are more than just cake and presents. They are a celebration of life, of resilience, and of the human spirit. They are a reminder that no child is forgotten, and that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and loved.

Thank you to all our donors and volunteers who bring so much joy to the children we serve.
