Women run. Women owned. Results driven.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: JENNIFER HASKINS

Q. What attracted you to the field of law and estate planning?

A. I have always wanted to help families plan to navigate really difficult times in their lives by being their advocate, approaching with empathy and consideration. I have a family member with special needs, so planning for successor caretaking means a lot to me personally.

Q. What is the most interesting place you have visited?

A. I visited Australia on a student trip as a child and that changed my whole worldview. I also have family in Hawaii and Ireland I have been lucky to visit in recent years. Walking on a volcano crater at Volcano National Park in Hawaii was definitely one of the most interesting experiences I've had!

Q. What are you reading right now? Or what book (or movie) would you recommend to others?

A. I'm always reading or watching something new. I love comics or watching a scary movie, but recently my goal is to read through the Agatha Christie mystery novels. I also just finished a book called “Wild Child: Girlhoods in the Counterculture” by Chelsea Cain, which was fascinating!

Q. If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

A. Maya Angelou is someone I would love to have dinner with; I love her writing style and I also write poetry so she would be such an inspiration to meet. Additionally, I grew up watching and loving Robin Williams' movies and was always very impressed by his quick wit. We share the same birthday! It would have been a childhood dream to have dinner with him.

Q. What is a fun fact about you we might not know?

A. My husband is a Zamboni driver (aka ice resurfacing operator) and we started dating after he taught me how to ice skate-- turns out it was a really great way to break the ice!

ICYMI: WHEN TO FIRE A TRUSTEE

Selecting a trustee is one of the most consequential decisions in estate planning.

While the name itself implies “trust,” the role is far more than a gesture of friendship – it is a demanding legal position with significant oversight. Understanding the mechanics of this role, and how to change course if a relationship sours, is vital for any trust creator.

The power to remove a trustee may be outlined in your trust’s terms or by the default rules of state law. Beneficiaries, the court, or other people impacted by the actions of the trustee may also have this authority.

Check out this popular article on When To Fire A Trustee from our monthly newsletter. Reach out to our office to be sure you are on our list.
