The program was filmed at GHS with Garfield students serving as hosts, and showcases student films from Garfield and other Seattle public schools.

The first few minutes contain a nice tribute to Garfield History.

Annual Fund Supports GHS Library

Dear PTSA,

Thank you for funding our recent library projects. Because of your support we were able to reorganize and genrefy the Garfield Library fiction section, purchase new titles from Elliott Bay Book Company, and expand our 3D printing options for student projects.

We’ve also broadened our reach across the building by involving students in book selection, launched a “Not Social Media” board to gather student opinions, and partnered with after‑school groups (Y‑Scholars, SU Tutors, the 3Drip 3D printing seminar, etc.) to increase student access beyond school hours.

Your generosity is making a real difference for our students’ learning and engagement. We appreciate your partnership and continued support.

With warm regards,

Tyson Manzin (’93)

GHS Librarian

Supporting Students During Conversations about College

With the holiday break coming up, many juniors and seniors will find themselves in social gatherings with family and friends who are eager to ask about their college plans. It’s an exciting but stressful time especially for seniors, so here are a few things for all families to keep in mind at holiday gatherings. And for GHS families who have other relatives who are in the midst of the college process, consider asking instead about other topics!

When college does come up, here are a few polite ways to redirect the conversation to other topics:

• “Thanks for asking. Yes, I’m working hard on my applications. I look forward to sharing when I decide where I’ll go.”

• “We’ve decided not to talk about plans for next year until (insert name) decides what they’d like to do / where they’ll go.”

• (When someone suggests applying to another place or asks why it isn’t on their list): “That school isn’t currently on my list but I’ll check it out. Thanks!”

-thanks to College Advisor, Brynnen Ford for these tips.

Sock Drive ends Dec 19 *Juniors winning!

Researcher Participants Needed - Seattle Children's

Researchers at Seattle Children's Hospital are conducting a study to develop a new measure of organization, time management, and planning skills in middle and high school students. We are looking for students in grades 6-12 who are interested in completing a brief (10-15 minute) questionnaire about their organization, time management, and planning skills as a part of research. One caregiver and one teacher of the student will also be asked to fill out the questionnaire on the student. Each individual (student, teacher, and caregiver) who completes the questionnaire will receive $35 as compensation for the time spent completing study activities.

For more information about the study and for caregivers to express interest, complete the inquiry form here: https://redcap.link/SPOTS.
