Dear Friend,

At CASA Lake County, we believe every child deserves a voice—including children with developmental disabilities. March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and a little known fact is that children with disabilities are more likely to experience abuse or neglect, or that navigating the child welfare system can be even more overwhelming for them?

That’s where our CASA volunteers make a difference.

Our CASA volunteers help by:

·   Advocating for specialized services: Our volunteers advocate for children to receive the educational and medical support they need.

·   Providing stability: A trusted CASA volunteer can be a comforting, familiar face in a child’s life.

·   Giving a voice: Volunteers work closely with teachers, doctors, and caregivers to make sure each child’s unique needs are met.

This month, we celebrate the dedication of our CASA volunteers who stand up for children, and highlight the need for volunteers for children with developmental disabilities.

We also celebrate our community (you!) for your support of our mission.

But, our work is not done. We currently still have 26 children waiting for a CASA volunteer. Please help us to be able to serve all of the children on our waitlist by sharing this volunteer opportunity with someone you know. Word of mouth is our best recruitment tool!

With gratitude,

Kudos for Some Amazing CASA Volunteers

To CASA Teresa for continuing to support her five-year-old CASA child as he moves from home to home. He is behind academically and socially as he was not in a school setting until recently. Teresa continues to advocate for him to get all the services he is entitled to receive.

To CASA Brendan who has a case with two young children that have encountered health challenges. Brendan continues to remain present in their lives and offer support to the family.

To CASA Chris for having a child in one of her cases adopted after four long years. This child will finally have permanency with her forever family. Chris continues to fiercely advocate on behalf of two children in her other CASA case. We thank Chris for her compassionate dedication to all the children she serves.

Mission Statement

CASA Lake County exists to promote and protect the best interests of youth who have been found to be abused, neglected, or dependent. We train and empower volunteers to advocate for them in the courts and in the community to help them safely return to their families, or when not possible, help them achieve safe and permanent homes where they can thrive.
