About the University Honors Program
Is your student eligible for the University Honors Program ? If they are in the top 10% of their high school class with an ACT composite score of 24 — or in the top 25% of their class with an ACT composite score of 28 — they are! The program’s mission is to prepare high-achieving and motivated students from diverse backgrounds to be innovative and reflective thinkers, future leaders and global citizens by providing best-practice opportunities that connect to real-world concerns and experiences.

Recent chemistry graduate Pontian Adogamhe, above left with his faculty mentor, Associate Professor Christopher Veldkamp, was part of the program while on campus, as well as conducting undergraduate research.

Here are some of the benefits of the program:
  • Academic enrichment
  • Smaller class sizes
  • Priority enrollment
  • Resume building, strong letters of recommendation
  • Eligibility for honors scholarships, conference experience, travel-study courses
  • Fun social activities with the Honors Student Association like films, ice skating, trivia activities, etc.

Students in the program are also eligible to join one of our two Honors Learning Communities . Joining a Learning Community is a high-impact practice that has been shown to increase academic achievement while also helping participants build supportive social circles. And who doesn’t want more friends on campus?

Want to find out more? In case you or your student have any questions, University Honors Program is hosting two Webex Q&A sessions on Monday, June 29, at 2 p.m . and Wednesday, July 1, at 10 a.m . Register by contacting honors@uww.edu , and we’ll send you the Webex link. The first 20 minutes will be an overview of the program, and the second will offer time for students to ask any questions that they may have about the program.

Don’t be shy about contacting us if you or your student have questions: honors@uww.edu . Welcome to the Warhawk family: we look forward to meeting you!
We're ready for your Warhawk
New freshman students like the ones pictured usually start the process of registering for classes during SOAR, our Student Orientation, Advising and Registration process. Like SOAR, advising and class registration has moved online this year— but we want you to know your student can expect the same level of guidance and support. The university’s Advising and Academic Exploration Center is open and ready to answer any questions your student might have.

While we may not physically be on campus, we are still working and connecting with students remotely during typical office hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.). You or your student can reach us at advising@uww.edu or 262-472-5220.

Like everyone, we’ve been adjusting to the new normal under COVID-19. So we could focus on our manual registration processes for this summer’s SOAR sessions, UW-Whitewater’s orientation, an academic advising hold was placed on all new freshman accounts. That hold will be lifted on July 17. If your Warhawk would like to make changes to their schedule after 7/17, we strongly encourage them to connect with their assigned academic advisor first!

To learn more about our office, the Advising and Academic Exploration Center advisors, campus resources and the work we do, be sure to visit our website .
A Warhawk lives here, too!

That's Matt Lopez from Bolingbrook, Illinois, with another one of the yard signs specially delivered by the UW-Whitewater Admissions team as part of a campaign to bring some excitement to new freshman Warhawks registered for SOAR throughout May and June.

Matt is a political science major who will be a member of the Legal Eagles Learning Community . Welcome!
