Called to Worship. Sent to Witness. Led to Welcome. | | From the Associate Rector | | |
“Come let us sing to the Lord, let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1)
One of the greatest joys of worshipping together is the way the tunes of our shared songs continue to accompany me throughout the week. Singing hymns together has an incredible impact upon our spiritual lives because the breath that God first gave to humanity (Genesis 2:7) is offered back to God in beautiful words and sounds.
I asked members of the choir past and present to offer their own thoughts and reflections on why they love to sing. I offer these to you in encouragement because the most important musical ensemble is all of us together. Wherever you stand, your voice lifted in prayer and praise is a gift to God and to us.
“Aspects of the High Mass at Saint Andrew’s that delight my soul are the resonance of the organ and the tuneful, age-old chants and hymns. Being a new member of the Saint Andrew's choir now, this delight is being underlined and defined in a new way. My favorite part about singing in the choir is the feeling of friendship and cooperation that I feel surrounding us as we strive to “make joyful noise” and bring our best to the Sunday mass.
The uplift of spirit I receive from this is keeping me coming back.”
Dawn Kawahara
“I joined the choir recently again after taking time off to care for my partner, Lucy Walters. I have enjoyed singing and making friends with others who like to sing. I know that singing is good for your brain and mental health, as well.”
Kay Friddle
“(Those who have joined the choir) have done so because of their love of Saint Andrew’s, their love for each other in trying to boost the voices in the choir, and a deep respect for John Gilbert’s work with us in the past, and his deep commitment to his role as organist and choir master.”

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's
For detailed parking instructions, click here.
***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***
| |
Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.
| Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications | |
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.
If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.
We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.
