Dear members and friends:

As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, we are progressing with lots of planning work over the summer so we hit the ground running before our annual Kickoff event on November 7th.

And speaking of Kickoff, we are thrilled to announce that Carrie Morgridge will be our keynote speaker this year. Carrie is a noted philanthropist, author and advocate for community improvement and verdant supporter of the Impact100 movement. You may not know it, but Carrie is one of the Founding Members of Impact100 Martin and a part-time resident of Martin County. Her words will inspire and motivate us as we head into Season Eight!

We are also delighted to welcome Debbie Adams to the Board I announced last month. Debbie has long been involved with Membership Engagement and will co-chair that Committee with Roseann Wolcott. She also has a passion for Neon, the technology platform we use to administer the chapter, and we look forward to her involvement in expanding its use to better serve our members.

Short and sweet for this month. I hope your summer is consumed with all the things that bring you joy!

With gratitude for your generosity no matter the form it takes,

Maureen Cotter, President

November 7, 2024

5:00pm-7:00pm

The Kane Center in Stuart

Keynote speaker, Carrie Morgridge

Carrie Morgridge is a prominent philanthropist, author and advocate for education and community improvement. She and her husband John founded the Morgridge Family Foundation in 2008, and their work has evolved over the years, from funding programs that are close to home, to investing in wide-scale solutions that can potentially impact millions of people and animals, and improve outcomes for communities and our planet.

Carrie was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Impact100. Her support helped transform Impact100 into the global movement that it is today, and she continues to mobilize and inspire women to make a difference in their communities. She is the author of three books, including Every Gift Matters: How Your Passion Can Change the World and Courage Money: A Guide to Becoming a Venture Philanthropist, and she has twice been invited to the TED stage. Her commitment to education, health, and community well-being has made her a recognized leader in the field of philanthropy.

We currently have 61 members committed for 2024-2025

Please renew as soon as possible so we can see where we stand towards achieving our goal of 500! Can you imagine what it would be like to award $100,000 to FIVE (5) charities in April?!

Our Membership Committee is working hard to secure Community Captains in each area of Martin County. We have found that this is the best way to recruit new members. If we are going to reach our goal of 500 members for the 2024-2025 Grant Award season, we need your help! If you can host a Meet & Mingle at your home and introduce Impact100 to your friends and neighbors, we would love to hear from you. We will help you by providing a list of members in your community, invitations, and will arrange to have both a Membership & Grants committee member attend to make the presentation to your guests.

Don’t forget that you can use your Donor Assisted Fund (DAF) or IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) to pay for your membership. If this is how you fund your membership, please make sure to have the financial institution include your name either on their letter that accompanies the check or in the memo line of the check so that we can ensure it is recorded correctly. Also, you might want to check to see if your company (or your spouse’s) provides a Company Match!

From time to time, we have members who would like to donate more than $1100 and have asked about providing a “scholarship” to a deserving female community member who would be an asset to Impact100 Martin but doesn’t currently have the funds to finance their own membership. Many Impact100 chapters around the country provide a vehicle for this type of extra contribution. We want to develop a scholarship program for Impact100 Martin. Could you help us create this program? Or, are you interested in donating more to help other community members become a part of Impact100 Martin?

We are always looking for volunteers on our Membership Committee, so please let us know if you are interested in learning more by contacting Ann Barwig at 614-404-2100 or Judy Zanchi at 678-231-6511, Impact100 Martin Membership Co-Chairs.

Joan has been an Impact100 Martin member since 2021. She proudly serves as Grants Committee Co-Chair with long-time friend, Kelly McIntyre. Joan appreciates the collaborative philanthropy of Impact100 Martin, as it allows women to address significant community needs in ways none of us could do alone! Working with the women of the Grants Committee and learning more about local nonprofits has been an exciting and rewarding endeavor.

Joan has served on the US Sailing Center of Martin County Board of Directors since 2020 and as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 30 years. Her career was balanced with raising three awesome children and included teaching at local public, private, and parochial schools and as Principal of Hobe Sound and Jensen Beach elementary schools.

After retiring in 2019, Joan took on some projects of home renovation, added family member Lucy (a Labradoodle), joined two terrific book clubs, started playing pickleball, kayaking, and enjoying life with her three adult children and six grandchildren while exploring the United States in a new camper van. Although she has traveled 44,000 miles to 46 different states in the past two years, Joan has been able to juggle the support of Impact100 Martin’s mission serving on the board and grants committee. Some of her favorite quotes are: “take the road less traveled”, “teamwork makes the dream work”, and “if you love what you do, you won't work a single day in your life”.
