HAPPY NOVEMBER OPTIMISTS
October has come and gone – Celebrate Community 2021 is a wrap! My sincere thanks to everyone for participating in this initiative and collaborating with other Optimist Clubs as well as our partner organizations: Rotary, Lions Clubs, and Kiwanis. Communities are stronger, and doors have been opened for further cooperation. Together, we can make a far greater impact in our communities than one group acting alone. You showed up and showed the world what it means to BE AN OPTIMIST.

A couple of weeks ago, Ken and I had the opportunity to spend a little time on ‘Broadway’. The theatre was a different experience from when we last attended over 2 years ago: no intermissions; no concessions; staggered entry times; everyone wearing masks, however, ”different” brought us back to the theatre.

The production we saw was “Come From Away.” Set during the week following the September 11th attacks, it tells the true story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. The story is of fear and desperation, Optimism lost, but found again through the kindness and acceptance of the local residents. At one point in the story, the pilot of the plane was a bit uneasy realizing these planes had been sitting on the ground for four days, emphasizing, “When a plane sits still, it begins to break down, planes are meant to FLY.”

This very same analogy applies to us as humans. To maintain our health and well-being, we must keep moving to improve stability, balance, coordination, and brain function. The same is true in our Optimist Clubs, we must stay active, keep transitioning, and engage with others in our communities. If we don’t move, we will break down, and we must not let that happen. We must FLY!
