A Note from the Executive Director | | |
Dear Colleague,
September was an exciting and busy month for our office. We held a highly successful communications workshop in Washington, DC where leading journalists provided two days of in-person training to researchers, students, and implementers; the 14th NIH-National Cancer Institute’s Global Cancer Research Symposium, which began at our annual CUGH meeting as a pre-conference workshop, concluded; we opened registration for our annual Virtual Global Health Week (free and open to all); we created a new section on our website devoted to current humanitarian crises; and we converted our Global Health Leader interviews into a podcast, making it more widely available to all. Registration for CUGH2027 in Lima is open and the program is superb.
In this newsletter you will see initiatives, events, and opportunities from our members. You will also see specific actions and material you can use to address current threats. If your institution is not a CUGH member, please join us. In these challenging times, partnerships are more important than ever. Link to join HERE.
CUGH, with our global network, is always seeking to partner with organizations that share our mission. If you are applying for a grant and think that CUGH may be a useful collaborator, please reach out to us at info@cugh.org.
As always, we appreciate it if you would spread the word and share this newsletter widely.
Thank you!
Keith

Three-Day Virtual Webinar Series:
Oct. 7-9 | 11am-12pm EDT
| | Welcome New CUGH Members! | | UC Berkeley Law’s Edley Center on Law & Democracy: Tools You Can Use to Protect Human Rights & Democracy | |
Protecting civil rights is fundamental to a functioning democracy. Public confidence in a healthy democracy derives from, and relies on, participants’ experience of fair and equal treatment at the hands of government and under law. Without robust protection for fairness and equality before the law, democratic institutions that rely on public participation, freedom of assembly, and free expression cannot thrive. And all other rights are placed at risk.
The Edley Center on Law and Democracy at UC Berkeley engages policymakers and communities in the US to strengthen systems that protect democracy and people’s rights. They have compiled tools, guides, and other resources you can use to advance these goals. Building capacity to strengthen effective governance in the US is essential. Please see and share the tools here.
