Ranger Checkpoint Newsletter - Summer 2023 Edition

A Message From The Chairman:

Fellow Rangers and Associates,

Sandy and I hope this message finds you well. The Foundation enthusiastically presents to you its redesigned website and this latest, of what will be quarterly, Ranger Checkpoint Newsletter.

We recently completed routine maintenance and a thorough cleaning of the Memorial and will resume placing pavers for existing and future orders. Visit the National Ranger Memorial Foundation site for information on purchasing a paver for your Ranger.

The Foundation will begin accepting scholarship applications for the Fall 2024 semester later this year. Detailed information will be included in the next Ranger Checkpoint Newsletter. Please consider donating to the Memorial Foundation and scholarship fund at NRMF Donate.

A hearty congratulations to the winners of this year's David E. Grange Best Ranger Competition and inductees into the 2023 Ranger Hall of Fame.

In & Around Our Ranger Communities:

USARA's Ranger Base Kinney Chapter, Orange Beach, AL, May 6, 2023

Last month, USARA's Ranger Base Kinney members and affiliates were honored to host 5 special guests, all originally from Laos. These men served in the Royal Lao Special Guerrilla Unit Secret War in Laos/Vietnam. They worked alongside US forces conducting special operations throughout the region. One of the missions they performed was the recovery of downed pilots, and they're credited with countless saved lives! After the war, they were all imprisoned and subjected to "re-education" camps, which consisted of torture and hard labor. One of the guests, Mr. Visanou Khamphouy, said some escaped and some were there longer than he. "I was there only three months," he humbly stated. These 5 men eventually made their way to the United States, and all became US citizens. It was a pleasure to meet them and hear their stories. Chapter president Chris Rivers presented the distinguished guests with the Ranger Base's coin. Please visit USARA's website to learn more about its mission, membership, and Ranger Bases.

Hardrock Charlie Foundation Summit, Tavares, FL, May 6, 2023

Hardrock Charlie Foundation held its 2nd Annual Summit last month in sunny Florida. The 3-day event gave Rangers from different eras the opportunity to reconnect, break bread, and JUMP! This year, over 100 Airborne Rangers & members of the Phantom Airborne Brigade (plus 1 stellar man's-best-friend) jumped from a C-47 into Lake Dora. The gators were politely cooperative (whew), which allowed participants to enjoy the post-jump festivities with Ranger brothers, friends, and family. Plans for next year's summit are in the making. Please visit Hardrock Charlie Foundation's website to learn about its mission and service to Rangers and their families.
