From Wish to Reality:

The Art of Naming Your Next Chapter

There is a quiet magic in writing things down. The moment a wish becomes words, it shifts. It grows legs. It becomes direction. And direction, when nurtured with intention, becomes reality. People often say seeing is believing, but the truth is believing is seeing. Belief moves first. Evidence follows. And belief becomes real the moment you give it language.

As the year winds down, I always return to a simple practice that has shaped both my personal world and every team I have ever led. It started in little note pads, then moved to OneNote, and eventually lived in the notepad on my phone. Between late November and mid December (some call this "No-Cember",) I pause long enough to take meaningful stock of the year: the good, the great, and the misses. Then I shift to what the upcoming year must become. Not what I hope for. Not the “maybe someday” list. What must be true. What milestones matter. What needs to move from wish to action.

And then I name the year.

One year it was the year of clarity. Another, the year of energy. Another, the year of healing. Each theme became a north star woven into my daily routines. It showed up in file names, calendars, even in passwords. A single word, quietly anchoring who I was becoming. When I brought this practice into my corporate world, teams loved it. It gave our goals heart. It made direction memorable. One of our most powerful themes was the year of fix what’s broken. We took every ignored ankle biter and moved it to the top of the list. And we fixed them. All of them. It transformed everything.

And here’s the beautiful part.

This is a fun alternative to stiff goal setting and the traditional mission, vision, values exercise that people glaze over. Humans crave things that are simple, easy, memorable. A theme gives them that. It naturally pulls people forward because it taps into something deeper than structure. It taps into attraction. It taps into belief. It taps into possibility. It is, at its core, the law of attraction in motion. What you name, you notice. What you notice, you nurture. And what you nurture, grows.

So here is the RECIPE to turn next year from a wish into a reality:

1. Look back before you look forward. Acknowledge the good, the great, and the misses.

2. Decide what next year must be. Focus on the non negotiables, not the maybes.

3. Name your theme. One word that captures the heart of what you need.

4. Prioritize the hard things first. Growth usually hides behind the biggest resistance.

5. Reinforce the theme everywhere. Write it, see it, use it. Let it become familiar.

6. Let belief come before evidence. Trust what you cannot see yet.

7. Share the theme with your team or family. Alignment multiplies momentum.

Hero moments rarely happen by chance. They are designed. First in your mind, then in your words, and eventually in your world. So go ahead. Write the story you want to live. Name your next chapter. Believe it into existence.

TIP of the Week

Less is more. Less is powerful. Less is how you win.

Start with One

People tend to overcomplicate their new year by setting too many goals, too many expectations, and too many rules. Instead, try this:

1. One theme- Choose the single word that will guide your year. Let it be your north star.

2. One must-do- Pick the 1 non negotiable thing you will accomplish. The thing that matters most.

3. One new technique- Introduce 1 simple habit or practice that elevates your mindset or routines. Something doable, sustainable, and empowering.

OpenAI's 2025 The state of enterprise AI Report

The most powerful transformations happen when intention meets capability. As leaders and creators, we shape experiences not only through mindset and behavior, but also through the tools we choose and the ways we use them. Technology can either add friction or remove it. When used thoughtfully, it becomes an amplifier of the human experience and not a replacement for it.

OpenAI released a new report, The State of Enterprise AI 2025, and it highlights something important for all of us who care about HX. The organizations that see the biggest gains are the ones that use AI with purpose. They integrate it into daily workflows, support their people with smarter tools, and create more time and space for meaningful work. Employees save time, leaders gain clarity, and customers feel the impact through smoother, faster, more personalized interactions.

The message is simple. When we align intention with technology, we elevate the experience for everyone involved. If you want to explore how AI is reshaping work and empowering teams, you can read the full report here

The Power of Connection

This time of year brings a mix of emotions. Some people fill their calendars with family, friends and celebration. Others feel the quiet ache of empty spaces, magnified by holiday decor, festive storefronts and reminders of what is missing. Both experiences are real. Both deserve compassion.

What I have learned over the past two years is this. Connection, however small, is powerful. It does not need to be loud or elaborate. A single conversation can shift your day. A shared meal can soften a hard season. A simple tradition can turn strangers into constants.

I think of my friend Maxine. We met at a CIO conference where I was moderating and she was MC’ing. It could have ended there. Instead, I followed a nudge. I reached out on LinkedIn, discovered she lived on the Island and invited her to lunch. One lunch became a monthly ritual we call Mindful Mondays. It has been well over a year now, and that connection has become one of the brightest parts of my world. A space to listen, to laugh, to support, to be fully human.

It reminded me that networking with purpose is not about business cards or transactions. It is about letting yourself be seen and choosing to see others. It is about creating room for diverse thinking, unexpected friendships and the kind of simple joy that offsets the friction of everyday life.

The more I give in these relationships, the more I realize I am receiving. A jar of honey left at my door. A bracelet handed across a dinner table. A soft scarf gifted in a moment of care. These gestures are not about the items themselves. They are reminders that connection is nourishment.

So as the season unfolds, let yourself reach out. Let yourself be reached. Value the small connections as much as the big ones. They are the threads that stitch humanity together, and they are one of the greatest gifts we have.

What's something you do to connect? What's a new technique (or an old one) that works really well? Tell me about it!
