BRISTOL, RI– Coggeshall Farm Museum, in collaboration with Captain Tew’s Company (2nd Rhode Island Regiment), will host “The Bristol Expedition” on August 17-18. This weekend-long living history event will transport visitors back to 1778 during the British occupation of Rhode Island.

Throughout the weekend, nearly 200 reenactors from over a dozen reenactment groups, including Peter’s Corps, King’s Rangers, and the 9th Regiment of Foot, will bring the Revolutionary War era to life. The program will vividly portray both military and domestic life during the American Revolution. Attendees can witness dramatic tactical demonstrations, engaging lectures, a fashion show and artillery displays.

On Saturday, August 17, activities will commence at 10 a.m. with British and American morning formations and drills, followed by a British raid on Coggeshall Farm at 1:00 p.m. A series of musket and tactical demonstrations, and historical lectures will take place throughout the day, concluding at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, the schedule will feature more morning drills at 10:30 a.m., a British and American drill competition at 11:15 a.m. and additional tactical and musket demonstrations, concluding at 4:00 p.m.

In addition to the reenactments, visitors can explore authentic Revolutionary War camps and engage with costumed historians to learn about everyday life in early New England.

“We’re thrilled to bring ‘The Bristol Expedition’ to Coggeshall Farm Museum next month” said Shelli Costa, Executive Director of Coggeshall Farm Museum. “The event provides visitors with a comprehensive look at history, from the dramatic battles to the everyday life of soldiers and civilians. We encourage everyone to join us for this truly immersive experience and gain a deeper understanding of the past.”

“The Bristol Expedition” is included with standard daytime admission ($10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 4-17) or with Coggeshall Farm Museum or Old Sturbridge Village memberships. Due to the event’s popularity, visitors are asked to purchase tickets online and in advance. The event will take place rain or shine.
