CultureLink News

March 2023

March is usually a very busy month. This year we had many activities happening at several locations, including: Citizenship Circles and English Conversations at Toronto Public Libraries, Job Fairs for March Break at our Youth Centre, Volunteer Celebrations to recognise the value of our Mentors, a sing-along event for Ukrainian newcomers and the last days of filming for our Women of Courage project. We continue working to deliver and develop programs that respond to the ever-chancing needs of the communities we serve.

New Program for Children & Youth

The new African Drums & Percussion workshop is part of a CultureLink research project on innovative arts programs and technology use.

While it provides children and youth with an opportunity to play and learn about new instruments and rhythms, the weekly group sessions are observed and/or recorded for our study, and participants will be asked about their experience.

Partnership Spotlight

Through the Library Settlement Partnerships (LSP), we offer information and services to newcomers across the city. CultureLink settlement workers have a space at selected Toronto Public Library (TPL) branches, where clients can drop by for assistance in their settlement journey. We also offer webinars, training sessions and workshops, such as Read Aloud and Art Through You, both engaging weekly sessions for Ukrainian newcomer children at Eatonville Library.

LSP provides settlement services to all newcomers, regardless of their immigration status. Our settlement workers offer one-on-one assistance as well as customised programming for new immigrants, so they can fully engage in all aspects of Canadian life.
