Insider Edition 91 | May 29, 2025

Jon Davis Town Manager

Hello Windsor!

As we enter the hottest months of the year, I want to remind all pet owners to take extra precautions to keep their animals safe. Our pets feel the heat just like we do—often even more so. One major concern during summer is hot pavement. If it’s too hot for your bare hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws.

Consider walking your animal early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Avoid blacktop surfaces during the peak heat of the day and always have water available for your pets if you're taking them outside.

We all love our animals, let’s keep our furry friends safe this summer.

WINDSOR LOCAL BUSINESS SUMMIT

As part of the Economic Development Division’s ongoing efforts to support Windsor’s local business community, I was proud to bring the Sonoma Small Business Development Center’s Capital Summit to Windsor on May 12, 2025. This special event, hosted in partnership with the Town of Windsor and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, connected over 30 existing and prospective business owners with a wide range of funding resources. Attendees heard directly from representatives of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), traditional banks such as Redwood Credit Union, Tri-Counties Bank, WaFD, and Summit State Bank, as well as alternative lenders including Statewide CDC, Marble Bridge, and Working Solutions CDFI.

The Capital Summit provided practical tools and expert guidance on accessing capital, from SBA-backed loans and commercial financing to microloans and long-term technical assistance. Panel discussions, one-on-one networking, and educational sessions were all designed to help Windsor businesses gain the financial knowledge and relationships they need to grow and succeed. Staff will continue seeking opportunities to partner with regional organizations to bring valuable resources to Windsor’s business community and foster a strong, supportive environment for local economic development.

ECO-FRIENDLY GARDEN TOUR

Thank you for making the Eco-Friendly Garden Tour a Success!

On Saturday, May 10, over 100 people visited the Michael A. Hall Park Pollinator and Rain Gardens during the regional Eco-Friendly Garden tour. A guided tour, led by landscape architect April Owens, took place in the morning, accompanied by Town staff and volunteers from the California Native Plant Society, who provided visitors with information on eco-friendly gardening. There was also a self-appointed mascot who joined the action.

The pollinator Garden was planted one year ago, focusing on the use of native plants to provide habitat for native pollinators, such as hummingbirds and Monarch butterflies. The rain garden was designed to collect rainwater that flows off Diana Court and filter it through engineered soil before it infiltrates into groundwater or flows into the storm drain system and nearby creek.

Please reach out to Cristina Goulart at cgoulart@townofwindsor.ca.com for information about starting your own pollinator garden or go to https://www.townofwindsor.ca.gov/1414/Rebates-and-Incentives to learn about the rebates the Town of Windsor provides for eco-friendly, water-wise gardening.

WATER SAFETY TIPS

Water Safety Tips from Sonoma County Fire District

As temperatures rise and summer vacation approaches, Sonoma County Fire District reminds families to stay safe in and around the water. Whether you're heading to the pool, Russian River, Lake Sonoma, or our nearby coast, water safety should be a top priority.

Always wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or enjoying open water, especially for children and inexperienced swimmers.

Make sure everyone in your family knows how to swim and remember:

  1. NEVER SWIM ALONE.
  2. Children should always be closely supervised around water, even if they know how to swim.
  3. Be especially cautious in natural waterways like the Russian River and Lake Sonoma, where currents, cold water temperatures, and underwater hazards can pose serious risks.
  4. If you're enjoying time at the ocean, never turn your back to the waves, sneaker waves and strong currents can appear suddenly.
  5. And at home, keep swimming pool gates locked and access secured to prevent unsupervised entry.

A safe summer is a fun summer. Stay vigilant and enjoy the water responsibly!
