Greetings from C. Darby Ulery, founder of "Let's Go! Fairhope," events-related newsletter, calendar and website resource for Fairhope, Alabama.
We're welcoming over 20 new readers this week! Hope you'll reply with your thoughts and ideas for community events-news.
According to a recent poll of Fairhope folks via Facebook, the majority of responders reported they do not believe in unbiased news and would consider a paid political ad an endorsement by the source, no matter the circumstances.
This news is admittedly discouraging regarding [perhaps Pollyanna] dreams of providing an independent, nonpartisan events-related newsletter reflecting our diverse community.
Do our 1,200+ readers here identify with the majority view above?
Let's Go! Fairhope countered with a comment..
"When watching local WKRG or another news source on TV, is anyone thinking the station [... is] endorsing that car, shower gel, or candidate?"
Keep in mind, paid ads and sponsorships are keeping this resource in existence, free to readers and free to submit events to the online calendar. Spoiler alert: No one is paying a house note or taking any trips on the funds collected here.
What do you think? Should we avoid paid political ads here in the community events newsletter?
Readers: Please respond with your thoughts regarding whether or not you would be opposed to seeing paid political announcements included in an upcoming issue of this newsletter. After all, this project is an experiment and still under development...
Thank you in advance.
