Week of September 16-20, 2019
“Homecoming means coming home to what is in your heart."

Dear Families and Staff:
A wonderful celebration is headed our way this coming week with the annual homecoming traditions here at Southern Door. "Showing the Classics" has been chosen as the homecoming theme. High school grades compete for the coveted "spirit jug" and earn points for showing their school spirit; from the hall decorations they create to food items collected for the Maplewood Pantry, to school spirit competitions and more. Even our elementary and middle schools will get into the spirit, with special activities and observing the school spirit days for the week.

Homecoming is also a time when alumni return. We invite you to relive some great memories, rekindle some great friendships, and invoke the community's pride in not only our students' talents, but in honoring the heritage and traditions of Southern Door. Please show, and more importantly, BE our EAGLE PRIDE!

Together We Are Eagle Strong!

Jandrin Named Friend of Education
Congratulations to Jane Jandrin, our 2019 Friend of Education Award. She is a leader who truly makes her life's work, one of service to our school and our community.

Above all, she leads by example. She is passionate about our Southern Door students being successful, well-rounded students, for assisting them and their families when needs arise, and for stepping up to “do whatever it takes” to make a difference in their lives. Her contributions to Southern Door have had, and will continue to have, a lasting impact on generations of Southern Door students and staff. To read more about Jane's service, go to this link .
JUNIOR MAKES FOOTBALL RECORD BOOKS

One for the record books!

Congratulations to junior, Nick Baudhuin! In the varsity football game last week, where SD beat Crivitz, 39-14, Nick had 392 yards rushing and six touchdowns. He broke Jim Flanigan’s single-game school record of 355 yards, and tied Flanigan’s single-game touchdown record that has stood since 1989.

Nick was also nominated for for the Statewide Player of the Week on WisSports.net.
SD EARNS SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
We're extremely proud to have received a WIAA Award of Sportsmanship for our positive team and fan behavior at the 2019 State Softball Tournament in Madison. Way to represent Eagle Nation! Let's keep the momentum going all year long in our co-curricular competitions.

TEACHER'S QUILT TO TRAVEL THE COUNTRY

Congratulations to Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher, Deb Ehlers, whose homemade quilt received a blue ribbon at the annual Quilt Expo in Madison. The 30” x 40” quilt comprised of over 1000 pieces in the traditional Log Cabin block pattern was designed, machine pieced, and quilted by Deb.

The quilt was named “Snowbound in the Cabin” because Deb said if it was not for Mother Nature dictating all the snow days last year, she probably would not have finished it on time. From here, the quilt will travel to quilt shows around the US for two years.
MIDDLE SCHOOL HALLS HAVE NEW LOOK

Students voted last spring to name the hallways. With a donation from Sherwin Williams, the middle school hallways are now named and color coded for ease of navigation. In addition, middle school staff added personal information to the leaves on our tree on the cafe wall, so stop over, read a few staff profiles, and get to know our staff a little better. The final addition was the ordering of signs for the hallways, in both English and Spanish, to identify each classroom by the teacher and subject area taught.
SD TO HOLD CHILD DEVELOPMENT DAY – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2019
The Southern Door County School District is pleased to announce that we will be holding a Child Development Day. This is a free community service which will provide information and assessment on how children are developing. HAUNTED MANSION NEEDS YOUR HELP
The Haunted Mansion does a fantastic job supporting so many of our school activities and their needs. Now in its 14th year, the Mansion has no paid positions, and continues to be supported by volunteer hours from the community.

Please consider your family's donating time (adults and children alike), either in getting the Mansion ready now (in September), or working the October weekends. Once you experience the fun and camaraderie of this group, you will be hooked for sure!

You can contact Sue Marchant at 920.493.4266 or Cory Vandertie at 920.676.1920 if you would like more details.
