Register Your SMS Sender ID Information

Please note this is only relevant if you send SMS (Text) Messages from The BIS Platform.

We wish to advise you about recent changes to regulations governing text messaging and the use of alphanumeric sender IDs in Ireland announced by the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg).

We apologise for the short notice in communications from our side. This short notice is due to us awaiting clarification and instructions from our third-party SMS carrier service (Commify UK Ltd.)

A sender ID identifies which organisation has sent a message and it’s what your customers see when they receive an SMS from you.

On The BIS Platform, the sender ID is the subject line of a text message from the client file (as per screen snippet below). You will need to register multiple times for every potential subject line, if you use more than one.

The ComReg regulations now require you to register your sender ID for approval before sending messages to and / or within Ireland. Based on our records, we understand that you currently use a sender ID to send SMS to, and / or within Ireland, so you must register your sender ID with ComReg to ensure it is compliant with the regulations.

Sender IDs then need to be registered with and approved by the company you use to send text messages. That means you’ll also need to register with us.

Even if you’re happy that your current sender ID meets regulatory standards, you’ll still need to register it for approval.

What you need to do next:

1) Register your sender ID(s) with ComReg before 3 July 2025. You can do that here. Make sure to select the correct Commify legal entity: Commify UK Ltd.

2) Once approved by ComReg, your sender ID(s) and ComReg Registration Number will need to be registered with us (BIS). Please let us know once your Sender ID has been approved and we will advise what is required from you. (This will be a signed authorisation letter and a proof of address like a utility bill).

Once confirmation is received from ComReg that you have registered your sender ID with them, which is typically within 24 hours, your registration will be approved.

You can find more information about the new regulations on Esendex’s (Commify) support page.

We have also applied to ComReg with some generic Sender IDs that may be used by you. We will make these available on The BIS Platform once approved.

What will happen if my sender ID is not registered?

From 3 July 2025, unregistered SMS sender IDs will be modified to ‘Likely Scam’ to alert the recipient to be cautious of the content of those text messages. Registering your sender ID will ensure successful delivery.

From 3 October 2025, text messages from unregistered SMS sender IDs will be blocked, and those messages will not reach your recipient.

It is crucial that you register and get your sender IDs approved by 3 July 2025. Please allow sufficient time for approval and for a second application, in the event of a refusal.

We once again apologise for the short notice on this, and we appreciate your co-operation in getting registered.
