Deacon Henry Higgins Clark and the Staff of the Island House Hotel

The Island House was built by Deacon Henry H. Clark in the 1850s and was the first summer hotel on MDI. The building was expanded many times over the years and had room enough to host Dr. R.J. Lemont's Drug Store and the spelling school's dramatic plays. After Deacon Clark's passing, Schuyler R. Clark purchased the building and tore it down, rebuilding it into two seperate houses.
