IGNITE: Igniting Civic Leadership Through Service-Learning

Wednesday, August 12 at 12:00pm Eastern

This is the moment to IGNITE your service-learning practice. Born out of years of research and practice, IGNITE is nylc’s newest service-learning cycle, built to help schools and youth organizations move young people from civic knowledge to civic action. In this session, you’ll be among the first to see the cycle unveiled in full: what it is, how it works, and why it’s different from what’s come before. nylc staff will walk through each element live, showing exactly how IGNITE translates into real classrooms and real programs, not just theory on a slide. You’ll leave with an early look at the tools and resources behind the framework, plus a clear sense of how to bring IGNITE to your own program or classroom.

High Impact + High Energy = Movement Building for 2026 Elections and Beyond

College-aged Americans make up a vitally important block of the electorate. And many of these young Americans are entering our electoral process for the first time during a very busy period of life, and seriously benefit from voter education on the registration and voting process. They also benefit from information about specific questions relevant to college voters, like whether to register to vote in their home state or their campus address. Join the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge to find out how you can plan a celebration that will help our democracy close the participation gap among college students, help students exercise their voting power, and shape the future of our democracy.

STORIES OF SERVICE

Everyday Young Hero: Anya Agarwal

Nearly every teenager faces a gap in knowledge in the important area of financial literacy. As a result, many young people enter adulthood feeling unprepared to make informed financial decisions. This lack of financial education has long-term consequences for individuals and communities. Poor financial habits can lead to unnecessary debt, limited opportunities, and increased financial stress. Anya Agarwal (14 | Waxhaw, North Carolina) created Teen Money Moves to make financial education accessible, relatable, and engaging for teenagers before they face these challenges. By helping teens build confidence with money early, her initiative aims to create a generation that is better equipped to make thoughtful financial decisions throughout their lives.

As Anya became more interested in personal finance and economics, Anya realized how difficult it was for teenagers to find financial education designed for them. Most resources were either written for adults or reduced important topics to oversimplified tips that didn't explain the "why" behind financial decisions. She also noticed that many of her peers felt intimidated by conversations about money simply because they had never been taught the basics. That realization inspired her to start Teen Money Moves.

Through a monthly podcast, Instagram educational content, and a beginner-friendly financial literacy guide, Anya breaks down topics like budgeting, saving, investing, and credit into practical lessons students can actually use. Anya's goal is to create conversations about money that feel welcoming instead of intimidating.
