Dr. Dan Edney, Medical Director for the Mississippi State Department of Health, reached out to MAFP last week with this message:
"We are in a new phase of the covid vaccination efforts and need physicians to strongly consider becoming vaccine providers and giving vaccine at the time of an office visit. Vaccination numbers continue to decline and there is ample vaccine available. We have proven that a person’s doctor has the best chance to convince a vaccine hesitant patient to receive this life saving vaccine. MSDH will be glad to help anyone register and determine how best to administer which vaccine and how.. We want anyone who is willing to take the vaccine to receive it at the time of their doctor visit and not worry about vaccine supply. Please see the information listed below that can assist you with increasing Mississippi's vaccination rates."
Community COVID Vaccine Program - the CCVP will provide reimbursement for overhead costs for your facility to go out into the community and conduct vaccination efforts. As always, providers can bill insurance for the administration fee of the vaccine. If the person is uninsured, you can use the HRSA fund. Enroll in the CCVP today!
Vaccinations Upon Request - We are asking you to vaccinate people as they present themselves, to avoid losing the opportunity to vaccinate them, even if this means puncturing a vial to administer one dose. ONE SHOT IN THE ARM IS BETTER THAN 6 DOSES ON THE SHELF. MSDH and CDC understand that there will be wastage and this is NOT a problem.
Ordering Vaccine - There are multiple ways to order vaccine.
COVID Vaccine Wastage - MSDH now has a new method for you to submit your COVID wastage electronically. Just submit information
using this link.
