Titan Golf

The Titan Golf Team beat five other schools to win the Little 10 Conference Tournament at Indian Creek Golf Course in Shabbona, Illinois. IMSA senior Will Guo (81) and sophomore Cooper Lee (82) earned medals for scoring the two best individual scores of the tournament. Seniors Kaylee Hwang, Carter Poskozim, junior Kennedy Su, and sophomore Aidan Chang also contributed to the victory.

IMSA's team score, 346, was 21 strokes better than the second-place team, Serena/Newark. It was the golf team's first conference title since winning the NAC in 2018.

It was the start of a busy stretch for the Titans, who have upcoming matches against Lisle and Harvest Christian this week and Elgin on Saturday.

Girls Volleyball

Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball Team for taking second place at IMSA's annual Schwartzwalder Classic Tournament. The team fought hard, only losing by one point in the third game to Westmont, who took first place in the tournament.

Opening an IMSA Innovation Hub in Carbondale

By Dr. Evan Glazer, President

Our strategic vision focuses on elevating IMSA Everywhere. One approach is to open satellite hubs that provide IMSA services, such as research programs, educational outreach, and professional development, to other areas of the state. This past July, we opened a Hub in Carbondale to improve our reach to Southern Illinois. We are collaborating with the STEM Education Research Center to complement their services and join together for new experiences. One example is the summer research program we launched in June, which involved a group of IMSA students working with scientists and engineers on SIU-Carbondale's campus. Here's a video that captures some reflections, and some of their project descriptions can be found in our summer symposium abstract booklet.

On Monday, we held a Board meeting at our Carbondale Hub site, and it was great to connect with colleagues there and learn about their aspirations. Take a look at our desired outcomes over the course of the year. In the coming year, we aspire to open Hubs in Edwardsville/Belleville (Metro East) and Chicago. We are also exploring new locations for summer programs. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have ideas on how IMSA can have a meaningful impact around the state. Knowing there are more students qualified for IMSA than space available, we want IMSA to be accessible in new and different ways, particularly where we may be underrepresented or where there is a need for more STEM enrichment. We are excited about the potential impact we can make throughout the State of Illinois.

Triston's Tips and Tricks

Coping with Homesickness

Homesickness is a natural feeling that can come with being in a new environment and away from your home, especially for the first time. Homesickness can feel overwhelming and make you feel out of sorts. Here are some tips and tricks you can try to help you through it:

Implement a routine - At home, you may have had a routine that you had every day. While away from home, it is important that you keep up your routine. This could include using alarms to manage time, getting the same amount of sleep every night, spending time before bed to read or journal, having a good breakfast every day, and more. This will help to keep your mind and body comfortable in your new home.

Personalize your new space - Make your new home away from home an environment comfortable for you. Decorate with posters, pictures, your favorite scent, your comfy blankets and pillows, and other things that remind you of home.

Get involved in the IMSA community - Joining a club, sports team, or group, or just attending events can help give you a sense of belonging away from home and allow you to meet new people. Get involved with something that you are passionate about.

Talk with someone - You are surrounded by peers going through similar experiences, so know that you are not alone. Find a friend to talk to and lean on if you are ever feeling homesick. The counselors always have an open door to help you through any feelings that you are experiencing.
