Greetings from the Tariff Sheriff!
I just attended a meeting with our corporate staff, our top apparel supplier and our top hard goods supplier. The subject was tipsy tariffs. Well, not really, but that's what I think of them. One day it's this, the next that. What matters is how our suppliers have been and are positioning themselves during this uncertain time. I came away feeling a sense of calm and relief, and that felt really good.
I'd like to share some key points with you.
Many of our suppliers pivoted during Trump's first administration when tariffs were originally a topic of conversation. That led to a lot of buying outside of China. While tariffs are impacting most countries, they are having much less of an impact outside of China. It was reassuring to hear how many of our suppliers began purchasing from Vietnam, Bangladesh, and other countries years ago. Yes, tariffs are still in play, but far less than Chinese tariffs. This has offered more predictability when buying and more stability with pricing. This doesn't mean we haven't and won't see price changes, but it may mean the impact will be lessened.
What I know for sure is our main apparel supplier who purchases the majority of their apparel from countries other than China, will have a 3.5% price increase effective June 1. If you want to plan ahead, we're ready to discuss apparel needs with you!
Please know we continue to monitor tariffs and we're talking to our supplier partners often. We are also closely monitoring the difference between USA Made, Assembled in the USA and USA Made with non domestic parts.
We appreciate our suppliers' transparency and our goal is to be equally transparent with you. We welcome any conversations you want to have.
