Main Program
Did you know that good product design can double the value of your products, and then your company if it is done consistently?
We'll cover 30+ measures that capture product design performance during this program.
The agenda changed this past week.
Measure #4 will now be an exciting new (2019) concept metric that applies to product development in just about all industries. Each company will need its own formula based on a set of prescribed principles. To us, it is a financial approximation of Net Promoter Score.
Measure #5 will now be 14 product design and development measures of CX, discussed as a single weighted metric. Buckle-up, there were hundreds to choose from.
Metrics 1 & 2:
These two metrics comprehensively measure the quality of a user interface and user experience separately from its overall industrial design. You apply these metrics at the onset of design and they remain relevant through to final design and marketplace performance. They are two fundamental metrics. Whether you use them or not, you should know them. They apply to every employee that uses a computer in your company, and to every customer that interfaces with company products.
Metrics 3:
PPP is a tried and true measure of innovation that has stood the test of time. Difficult to calculate, big data analytics is shedding more light on its usefulness as a measure of innovation. There is data covering many industries now.
Metrics 6 & 7:
Roughly five years ago, advances in management science began to highlight the premium that companies reap from strong product design, individually and collectively. These two indicators are now five years old and appear to be the best benchmarks at this time. We'll discuss industry-wide rankings for each, and contrast top-quartile companies to industry averages. The gaps are big.
Plus Measures:
The PLUS for this program will quickly cover a number of other metrics that have part of their basis in good product design: customer satisfaction, net promoter score, completion metrics, and so-called pulse and pirate metrics.
Other Topics
To open-up,
we'll discuss the challenges of isolating the overall design-for-best-CX techniques into their not-so-cleanly-separable design components. Industrial Design, User Interface, User Experience, Sustainable Design, Digital Design (IIoT and IoT) all have a place in this program.
To wrap-up, we'll portray the metrics we discussed in their likely positions in program, department, and/or corporate metrics scoreboards and dashboards.
