The Light of the Gospel

Continues to Spread

The Sánchez-Berrios Family

Serving in Peru

Dear partners in the Great Commission,

Behind every remote community reached, every river journey, and every Indigenous leader equipped is the grace of God and the faithful support of each one of you. Thanks to your prayers and generosity, the light of the Gospel continues to spread into the farthest reaches of the Amazon.

We would like to share how God has been at work over the past couple of months:

Empowering Indigenous Women:

Zulema accompanied a delegation of Indigenous women leaders from Peru to a key gathering of the Trans-Amazon Network in Colombia. More than just a gathering or an event, this was a strategic effort to strengthen the voice, leadership, and vision of Indigenous women as they serve their own peoples through missions.

Raising Up a New Generation of Indigenous Leaders

We give endless thanks to God for the Indigenous Young Leaders Camp held in August under the theme, “We Belong to the Kingdom”. Despite long distances to travel and significant personal sacrifices, seventeen young people from six different ethnic groups gathered with one purpose: to be equipped to return to their communities and kindle the flame of the hopeful message of God’s Kingdom among their own people.

Strengthening Our Work with Indigenous Women Leaders:

We met to discuss their handicraft initiatives, share highlights from the gathering in Colombia, and their future ministry plans with the women of the Indigenous network. We also received valuable support from a volunteer as we continue building a strong, mission-focused ministry.

We also continue to encourage and support the missionary outreach of our sisters in the Indigenous women’s association through Bible studies and handicraft workshops.

Equipping the Awajún Church for the Great Commission:

We joined up with mission partners to travel to Sarameriza, a journey that took three days. There, we shared vital tools with Awajún pastors and leaders, strengthening them as they continue bringing the Word to their own people in culturally authentic and sustainable ways.

We have an especially significant reason to thank God: He is raising up a new generation of young Indigenous leaders with missionary hearts and genuine commitment.

We are grateful for Eli, a young Shipibo leader who is now beginning to accompany us on trips to support Indigenous church leadership.

Encouraging Indigenous Leaders for Mission in Ecuador:

Juan Carlos took part in this important consultation in Shell as a member of the Three Waves Movement leadership team.

Please pray for this effort as well—that the Indigenous leaders of their new network in Ecuador will wholeheartedly embrace the missionary task of reaching their own peoples.

Mobilizing the Church for Missions

Near several Asháninka communities, we participated in a missions conference in Pichanaqui. Our challenge and prayer was to mobilize the local church to approach the mission field not only with passion, but also with the preparation needed for effective cross-cultural ministry.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for:

  • For the lives of the new Indigenous leaders who are emerging

  • For the work of the Indigenous Network

  • For the commitment of new missionaries who want to join the Three Waves Movement in Peru

  • For our family—our move and our health

We remain steadfast in our calling, moving forward together until the last people group has heard about Jesus.

Thank you for being part of this calling!

In Christ,

A note from Alteco

As the Indigenous network in Peru continues through a season of transition and the need for facilitation across the country increases, Juan and Zule’s responsibilities are expanding. This season has brought a growing need for additional financial support. They plan to connect personally soon to share more about what God is doing and how you might feel led to participate.

We trust you see the impact of your generosity!

Thank you for faithfully partnering with our ministry
