Message from our Executive Director

Dear South Central LAMP Family,
As we enter this season of gratitude, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their support of South Central LAMP. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday – it’s an opportunity to spend time with our family, eat, and wear comfy clothes!
I also enjoy seeing how the families we support adopt some of these traditions, while including their own twist. My Salvadorian family would make Sandwiches de Pavo or Pan Con Pavo (check out the recipe for these incredible non-traditional turkey sandwiches!). My husband’s Mexican family would make Pavo in chile (turkey in chili is amazing by the way!), and some families make tamales for this holiday.
No matter the food you bring to the table, the values are the same, being grateful. Grateful for the little and big things. Grateful for those we have met along the way, and for everything we have experienced. Grateful we live in a world with so much kindness.
Thank you for caring about people you may have never met; I promise the kindness you bestow upon us is felt throughout our community. Our families know that much of what South Central LAMP provides is done through contributions by individuals that recognize the need, and want to make a difference. Again, thank you for all that you do for us, we are grateful for you.

Adult Education Program Update
|
|
The holiday spirit is in full swing at South Central LAMP! We kicked off the celebrations with our amazing Harvest Festival, where the families from our Family Literacy and CSPP programs "Trick-or-Treated" their way around campus collecting fantastic books. The holiday fun doesn't stop there! Throughout November, we're spreading the warmth by providing holiday food bags to our families.
While our Spanish Kinship Support Group takes a holiday break starting in November (don't worry, we'll be back in February!), our online ESL classes are still going strong. Plus, our Hybrid Parent Workshops offer valuable insights into parenting themes, and our Online Parenting Classes continue to be available.
In the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle, let's not forget to prioritize our mental wellness. It is crucial to remember to take care of ourselves and our emotional well-being, ensuring a season filled with joy and fulfillment.

Children's Education Program Update
|
|
On October 31, we celebrated our annual Harvest Festival in partnership with RIF (Reading Is Fundamental). Each child in our program had the opportunity to trick or treat for books!
They also enjoyed a few sensory activities, like feeling for pumpkin brains and making their own slime. Of course we had our traditional Scarecrow Contest and Costume Parade!
Clifford the Big Red Dog even joined us, and he said his favorite part of the event was watching the joy as the kids received new books! Every year our Harvest Festival is a fun, safe space for our families to enjoy time together.
Thank you to all of our volunteers, Board members, and staff who made this such a special event for our families.
