Connecting with Receptivity

April 2026 Newsletter

Greetings!

“Through openness and receptivity on the part of human consciousness, spirit is allowed to infuse our lives, to give them meaning and direction.”

— Marianne Williamson

When I find myself overwhelmed with the stress of daily living and all the turmoil playing out across the globe, I find that taking a few minutes to breathe and consciously open my heart and mind creates a big shift; I become aware of and receptive to my inner wisdom and the wisdom of the natural world. I am able to move with more ease and be more present in the moment, more grounded and confident.

When I forget to pause, our equines are very good at reminding me to slow down and be open to them, myself, and the greater good in the world. Even if you don't have horses and donkeys ready to remind you, there are lots of ways to connect with receptivity - check out our articles below for some helpful tips!

And for another fun way to help be reminded and feel connected to the SIB herd and their wisdom, we've just made our T-shirts & merch available to order online as part of a fundraiser to help give back the Equipowerment Foundation (EFH4) a very special non-profit that helps with rehabilitation and enrichment for therapy horses & donkeys. More info at the bottom of this email!

Wishing you a Receptive April,

Dr. Val

What is Receptivity and why is it good for us?

Connecting with receptivity allows us to receive what we (really) need without forcing or controlling an outcome or situation. It gives us the opportunity to connect on a deeper level to the reality of an experience, to shift perspective and to see the bigger picture. Being receptive affords us a break from the struggle of pushing to make something happen and offers the chance to gain some positive energy and insight. When we are in receptivity, we align ourselves with abundance rather than lack. Receptivity helps to restore balance - it isn't just being open, it is also being focused and aware in the moment.

Try these 9 roads to receptivity and see what they have to offer you:

#1 - Be still and listen.

First step to receptivity - silence all of that noise! The noise of thoughts, to-do lists, worries, plans. How can anything come in if your mind is full to overflowing? How can you hear if you are talking? How can you understand if you are not listening? Be still. Listen actively. Really commit to this moment and seek within it. Let go of distractions of future and past. What do you hear? Read more.

Horse Wisdom

Jeff* and his wife, Sharon*, came to Stand InBalance because they were struggling with their 13 year old daughter. During one session they chose to connect with a large donkey which they decided represented their "daughter".

As they began walking their "daughter" to the barrel labeled "communication" the donkey stopped and refused to move any closer. While Jeff and Sharon appeared to be communicating with each other and working together, the donkey's reaction said otherwise! We asked Jeff and Sharon to pause and become mindful and open to understanding what the donkey was expressing through his body language... Read More

In the Workplace

Creating Receptivity in the Workplace.

In today's workplace, it's so easy for the only focus to be on productivity. We're constantly pushing for more, more, better, better. Although productivity is fantastic, we have to be careful not to become unbalanced. You can have too much of a "good thing". Striving for productivity is just that, striving. Striving for anything without balance becomes detrimental to the health of the employees and the workplace as a whole. When we lose sight of the opposite of striving, allowing and receiving, a healthy drive turns into a stressful, mindless struggle. The key is finding and maintaining receptivity.

In a leadership role, being receptive allows others the space for inspiration and growth. The best leaders are great listeners who not only guide, but also support others and create a sense of trust. When we're receptive we are receiving information and knowledge from a variety of sources. We're open to new ideas and notice things that we may not have when we are too busy being hard focused on the end goal. So how can we bring more receptivity into our business life?
