National Safety Month

June is National Safety Month, serving as an important reminder that decisions made on the road can help prevent crashes and save lives. Whether driving, walking, biking, riding a motorcycle, operating a commercial vehicle, or teaching a teen safe driving habits, practicing safe behaviors contributes to safer roads for everyone. The National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) has compiled practical safety tips for all road users in its latest National Safety Month blog, and we encourage the community to read and share these important safety messages.

National Bike Month Recap

May was National Bike Month, a nationwide celebration of the health, safety, and environmental benefits of bicycling. Throughout the month, communities across the country participated in events encouraging active transportation, including Bike & Roll to School Day, Bike to Work Week, and Bike to Work Day. The MPO joined the celebration at the Boca Raton Bike Rodeo, promoting bicycle safety to young cyclists. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported National Bike Month. Autonomous Vehicles Conference

MPO Governing Board Chair and Boca Raton City Council Member, Yvette Drucker, along with Deputy Director of Multimodal, Brian Ruscher, participated in the Autonomous Vehicles Conference in Boca Raton. They served as panelists for the session, “Regulation, Risk, and Responsibility in Autonomous Transit,” where they shared their expertise and insights on the evolving future of autonomous transportation. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of the important conversations helping shape the future of mobility.

Boca Raton Bike Rodeo

The MPO participated in the 2nd Annual Boca Raton Bike Rodeo in celebration of National Bike Month. During the event, staff shared bicycle safety information with attendees while young cyclists received helmet fittings, completed interactive riding courses, developed their biking skills, and learned important safety practices, including how to safely cross railroad tracks while riding a bicycle.

E-Bicycle and Golf Carts Webinar

Last week, the MPO hosted a webinar on e-bicycles and golf carts focused on recent legislative updates, safety considerations, and best practices for the operation of e-bicycles, golf carts, and low-speed vehicles. The session provided guidance for local governments, law enforcement, and the public, while also highlighting available resources and tools to support safe operation and effective policy implementation. To view the webinar recording, visit Youtube.com/@PalmBeachMPO.

5-E Toolkit

The MPO launched the 5-E Toolkit, a new resource designed to help local governments, organizations, and community partners advance transportation safety initiatives. The toolkit provides guidance, best practices, and resources organized around the five E's of transportation safety: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation. Explore the toolkit at PalmBeachMPO.org/5EToolkit.
