A Note from our Executive Director

Dear Lori,

Some moments require celebration, and this is one of them. On March 17, our new Lompoc LEAP Children’s Center opened its doors to students. I visited our Lompoc center last week. It was nap time. As I quietly tiptoed into the baby classroom, one student was up and playing. He gazed up at me with a big smile. It was a joy to meet the many new teachers we have hired to work in Lompoc. “My commute to work is less than seven minutes,” one new staff member said with delight.

So much goes into opening a new Children’s Center. Had I known how challenging and expensive this effort would turn out to be, well, I would still do it all over again. Because by opening in Lompoc we are going where the greatest need is. We are caring for children, strengthening the workforce, and building partnerships. It has been a labor of love. Yes, even knowing how hard it is, I would do it all over again.

I am grateful for the support LEAP has received: from Trinity Nazarene Church, and from donors, foundations, community partners, elected officials, and our children’s center staff. This has truly been a team effort, and we can all feel the joy of accomplishment in reaching this milestone. Onward!
