ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

WCJC athletes were recently recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association for academic excellence. To qualify for the NJCAA awards, students had to complete two full-time semesters. First Team awards were issued to student athletes with a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). Second Team was for students earning a 3.8 to 3.99 GPA. And Third Team awards were issued to students with a 3.6 to 3.79 GPA.In addition, Region XIV all-academic awards were issued to student athletes with a GPA of 3.25 or better. Athletes had to complete at least 24 hours of college courses leading to a degree. Pictured above is Braylon Mitchell of Houston, who made the 2025 Region XIV All-Academic Team.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Two WCJC employees have graduated from the Texas Success Center Leadership Academy. WCJC Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Lindsey McPherson (above) and WCJC Dean of Enrollment Management and Registrar Jerry Martinez (below) were members of the academy’s Cohort 2, a group comprised of higher education leaders from across the region. Participants met virtually and in-person over a one-year period beginning in June of 2024. Their mission was to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers and help form strategies to strengthen Texas Pathways.
