Hi!

It's February, the month of love and I've been thinking about all the things I love about our Rivercity Pilates community!
  • I love how sweet and thoughtful all of our clients and staff are.
  • I love how many laughs I hear when I'm at the studio and
  • I love how clients and staff support each other with positive encouragement and by sharing their personal movement stories!
  • I love that sooo many of you were dedicated enough to join us for a Facebook live class this past month when the snow prevented us from having class at the studio!! If you missed that you can still find the Pilates Mat class we did on our Facebook page!

I love that each and every one of you is interested not just in working out but learning how to move your body in ways that help you feel better on a daily basis.

Besides our regular weekly classes, there are some great opportunities this month for you to learn, move and of course, continue to strengthen and balance your body by using movement!!

Have a great month! Spend lots of time with your loved ones, move your body as much as you can, and spend as much time as you can doing things you love!
Inspiration of the Month
Jenny Theony
Both Yoga and Pilates have helped build some core strength and flexibility.  I wasn't getting that on a bike and my back feels so much better. From cycling I had very tight quads and calves, which contributed to some knee pain and plantar fasciitis issues. Yoga and Pilates have helped me stretch out those muscles and work on overall leg strength.
Pilates Teacher Training
Pilates Reformer training program starts February 29!
Our teacher training program allows teachers to learn all the pieces of the Pilates method in a way that works for their schedule and life! After completing our Pilates Mat training there are opportunities to continue mentoring and expanding your teaching by learning to teach on all of the various pieces of equipment that Joseph Pilates created!

These learning opportunities allow teachers to add tools to their toolbox of things they can use to help clients move better and feel better in their body!

Equipment training programs are open to any teachers who have completed Pilates Mat training, even if it was with a different program.
Workshop - TODAY!!!
Build a Better Teaser Workshop is today at 11!!
We have a secret to tell you: we know that most of our clients would tell us they wish they could do a better teaser! It's why we named this workshop what we did!

But honestly this workshop is about way more than just learning to do a better teaser! Rivercity Pilates Teacher Shelley Mockler is going to teach you (or maybe reteach you) how to move your hips and your back in a way that will make most of your Pilates exercises better! This workshop is great for beginners as well as those who have been practicing Pilates.

P.S. You will not be doing teasers for an hour!! You'll start with basic movements and learn techniques that will help you work toward your best teaser at the end of class! movements

If you love learning about how to move better in your body...you will love this workshop! Click here to reserve a spot.
Thank you!
One of our projects this year was to create a little video that captured the essence of the studio that we could put on our new website. We are so thankful to our clients and staff who came in to be part of this project and we love the result!! Be sure to watch it and let us know what you think!

New Classes & New Times!
New Yin Yoga Class
Yin Yoga is based on the principles of coming into a pose appropriate for your body and then deciding to remain still and holding the pose as you soften and relax into it. Poses are held from 3-5 minutes.

Here's what a client said after her first Yin Yoga class with Barbara: It was amazing. I couldn't believe how quickly the class went by! Holding the gentle stretches made my back, hips and backs of legs feel so good!

Yin Yoga will improve your range of motion and flexibility in a safe way. The slow, mindful pace allows you to listen to your body and adjust appropriately.

Try a Yin Yoga Class Sunday at 6pm.

Beginners welcome and no Yoga experience needed!
Please welcome new Rivercity Pilates staff Barbara Sorenson! Barbara started practicing Yoga in her late 40's as a way to heal a back injury. She tells us she didn't really love it at first but as she learned to be more comfortable moving her body she fell in love with it and was inspired to become a teacher.

What exactly is the Pilates Chair?

The word chair often creates images of a senior workout geared for those with limitations, when in reality the Pilates equipment named the Chair is a versatile spring based piece of equipment that is a great place to practice Pilates fundamental concepts yet can challenge even the most seasoned professional athlete.

In this quick video Carey will introduce the chair and show you just a few examples of different exercises that can be done on this amazing piece of Pilates equipment.

The secret to safely getting started exercising (and sticking with it) is easier than you think...
Why is it that so many people go from not exercising at all to jumping into exercise programs that are super intense, exercise programs that have them doing movements their body is not physically ready for and exercise programs that, quite frankly, are more likely to leave them with injuries versus feeling better in their body?

The key to using movement as a health tool is to start where you are and gradually build strength and mobility. Your body will change most effectively without injuring yourself if you find that edge of doing just slightly more than what your body is used to. Not sure where you are starting at? We can help with that! Schedule a complimentary session with one of our teachers who will show you how to practice movement that is doable in your body and teach you how to gradually increase what you are doing so you can progress safely to gain strength and mobility!
