Mr. West Bridgewater 2024
|
|
The annual Mr. West Bridgewater started off with a bang this year, with all nine constants opening the show with a well-choreographed dance routine, complete with top hats and canes. The contestants consisted of Luke Destrampe, Christian Packard, James Mitcheson, Sam Salter, Derek Cashman, James Harris, Elie Laguerre, Elijah Popotte, and James Sheedy.
Following the dance was a quick question and answer, and we found ourselves in a talent show, with the boys showing off their best dance moves, singing, painting, and even a magic show.
The talent portion was followed by the senior girls of 2024, who performed a Rockette style dance to the crowd's delight.
|
|
After a brief intermission, the young men walked out dressed to the nines. Here, the hosts gave details on each contestant, and asked them randomly picked questions including embarrassing moments, what superhero they'd be, or what rule they'd most like to break.
Baby pictures and childhood videos were shared with the crowd, all culminating to the final reveal- who was Mr. West Bridgewater 2024?
The award was presented by the 2023 winner, William Duca. After giving out awards for fan favorite, congeniality, winner of the swimsuit and talent portions, the runner up was declared Elie Laguerre, and the winner of Mr. West Bridgewater 2024 went to Elijah Popotte.
Watch the WBTV coverage below.
Congratulations to all who participated, it was surely a night to remember!

West Bridgewater Food Pantry Looking for Sustainers
From the West Bridgewater Food Pantry,
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our donors and community partners for their unwavering support in the past. Your generosity has been pivotal in our journey thus far. Yet, the need to rally together once more is upon us as we persist in our mission to aid the 60+ local families grappling with food insecurity.
In February 2022, we transitioned from our previous location at Spring Street School to a new home at 457R S. Main St. This move was beneficial for two key reasons: it provided the much-needed additional space and streamlined the distribution process for those we assist. However, this improvement introduced a new set of challenges, including increased overhead costs. Beyond our food expenses, we now cover rent, electricity, gas, insurance, and internet fees.
Our organization is powered entirely by volunteers who dedicate countless hours to keeping the Pantry operational. Despite our efforts in fundraising, securing grants, and receiving financial donations, our outgoings consistently surpass our income. To maintain our operations, a steady and reliable cash flow is indispensable. We find ourselves in need of further assistance.
Can you contribute to our cause? Support can come in financial form or through building connections. Perhaps you know of a business capable of becoming a sustainer, a company eager to enhance its community impact through financial support, or someone with a suitable space they're willing to donate or lease at a discounted rate. With your support, we can continue our mission to ensure that no one in West Bridgewater faces hunger. Learn more about the food pantry and how you can help at West Bridgewater Food Pantry or phone us at (508) 510-5274.

Climate Can Do: Recycling Household Scraps Through Composting
Thinking about starting to create your own compost? Composting is simple, and can be done right in your own back yard in a designated space or box.
Composting is a controlled, aerobic (oxygen-required) process that converts organic materials into a nutrient-rich soil amendment or mulch through natural decomposition. Microorganisms feed on the materials added to the compost pile, breaking it down into core materials.
Materials you add are "greens" and "browns." Greens provide nitrogen, and can include fresh grass clippings, food scraps, and coffee grounds. Browns provide carbon and act as a food source. Typical browns you can add include dead leaves, branches, twigs, and paper.
Benefits to Composting
- Improves the structure and health of your soil by adding organic matter.
- Helps the soil retain moisture and nutrients.
- Attracts beneficial organisms to the soil and reduces the need for pesticides and fertilizers.
- Reduces the potential for soil erosion.
- Sequesters carbon in the soil.
- Builds resiliency to the impacts of climate change.
Aerating occasionally helps the process. Without oxygen a compost pile is ready in 6 months to a year. With oxygen added, in just a few months, you can add compost to your flower and vegetable beds, window boxes, and container gardens; incorporate it into tree beds; mix it with potting soil for indoor plants for a nutrient rich soil.
Erin Payne, Buzz Around Intern and SNHU student wrote this Climate Can-Do Article.
Together, we can make a difference by taking action to live sustainably. Let's empower ourselves to create a better future for our planet, one step at a time.

Farewell Game Marks End of an Era
for WEB Girls Ice Hockey Seniors
|
|
On February 21st, WEB Girls Ice Hockey had their last game of the season, which was also the last game for the team's seniors, Kate, Grace, Keira and Riley.
In the last few moments of their final game together, Riley scored and had all of her fellow seniors on the ice with her at the time. The seniors and the team shared a celebratory hug over this final goal in these last few moments. It was a joyous and tearful moment! Emily O'Connor shared that "2 of the seniors (Riley Bain & Kate Carabin ) have been on this WEB team since it began. They are a special group of 4 hardworking girls, and we will miss them next year."
|
|
Also from Emily: "The WEB Family ..have truly enjoyed watching this group of seniors over the years. Go do more great things, ladies." What a great way to wrap up a season, with a senior scoring the last goal!
