LCCC was proud to host an intensive, four-day fiber optics training in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Light Brigade!

Four PA community colleges, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Northampton Community College, Luzerne County Community College, and Bucks County Community College, have officially joined forces with AWS as part of the Technology and Trades Consortium to train local faculty in fiber optics! Faculty representatives from LCCC, along with regional partners and instructors from local Career and Technical Centers, gathered on our campus from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day for hands on, industry standard training.

In total, 13 invited faculty members were instructed through Light Brigade during the week. Those who completed the certification will now move into a train the trainer two day class, ensuring they are fully certified to bring this vital curriculum back to students across all four institutions and build a lasting local pipeline of skilled workforce talent.

With the surge in high speed internet demand and data center expansion across the nation, trained technicians are needed now more than ever. As AWS Principal Workforce Development Leader Nick Lee Romagnolo noted, these essential, hands on jobs require real technical skills that are protected from automation. LCCC is thrilled to be at the forefront of preparing our instructors, and ultimately our students, for these high demand careers!

Different Paths, Shared Impact: The Leadership Journeys of Arianne Roberts and Manseob Sin

Lehigh Carbon Community College offers a wide range of leadership opportunities for students, including involvement in diverse clubs and creating activities that enrich campus life. Students like Arianne Roberts, former president of Pride Club, and Manseob Sin, former president of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, exemplify student leadership by representing and celebrating the diverse culture of LCCC through organizations.

The experiences of Arianne Roberts and Manseob Sin demonstrate that Lehigh Carbon Community College is far more than a stepping stone; it is a launchpad. By getting involved in leadership, joining campus activities, and being part of a supportive academic community, both students finally felt like they truly belonged.

At LCCC, students can find as many opportunities as they are willing to pursue. The college supports students in expressing who they are and encourages them to break through old expectations to discover new possibilities. Roberts and Sin show that community college is not a second choice; it is the smart choice. It is a place where shy students can become leaders, where students who feel alone can make connections, and where goals can be reached. Their stories inspire both current and future students to use available resources, get involved in leadership, question the status quo, and reach their full potential.

A Summer of Community and Connection

Grid collage of LCCC faculty and staff participating in Spirit Committee summer events, including the Summer Picnic, America 250 Spirit Day, and the Luau Party.

This summer, the Lehigh Carbon Community College campus flourished with creativity, connection, and community pride thanks to the engaging events hosted by the Spirit Committee.

The festivities kicked off with the Spirit Committee Summer Picnic. The sun was shining, the energy was high, and the campus luckily dodged the rain. It was a fantastic time for faculty and staff to come together, relax, and connect, bringing great energy and plenty of smiling faces to celebrate the season.

The momentum continued with our America 250 Spirit Day, which drew an incredible turnout. The weather remained perfect as the campus community came together in the mall area, decked out in vibrant red, white, and blue. Everyone dressed up to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary and enjoyed some amazing hot dogs.

To top off the summer, LCCC held its Band Tee & Sweet Treats Spirit Day. The Campus community rocked their favorite band t-shirts at the SSC mall area, bringing awesome music energy, and conversation to the heart of campus. To keep everyone cool, Mon and Mel’s Sweet Scoops Sweet Treat Truck rolled in with free ice cream, providing the perfect refreshing treat to wrap up the summer celebrations.

These gatherings were a great reminder of what makes LCCC special: our shared community. Even during the quieter summer term, coming together to support one another and share a few laughs keeps our campus strong.
