A Note from Our CEO
Greetings!
At our board meeting last month, one of our early childhood directors shared something that has stayed with me. She talked about the levels of trauma children and families in our community are facing right now. Some children are living in homes where there is domestic violence. Many families are living in fear of immigration enforcement. Every day, children are witnessing violence - sometimes in their homes, sometimes in the streets, sometimes scrolling across the news.
And then they come through our doors at LEAP.
And we see them smile. We see them give and receive hugs. We see them build with blocks, paint pictures, sing songs at circle time. For many of our children, LEAP is the safest place in their lives.
That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because of the care and love of their teachers.
Every single day, LEAP teachers create intentional classrooms - spaces designed for work, play, learning, belonging, and above all, safety. They greet each child by name. They stay calm when emotions run high. They notice when a child needs extra reassurance. They build the trust that allows children to relax, to play, to simply be children.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We are honoring our incredible teaching staff who do this essential, sacred work every day.
I invite you to reach out and thank a teacher in your life who created safety for you or someone you love.
Warmly,
Lori Lander Goodman
Chief Executive Officer
