Children of all ages are welcome in our worship service. This means we anticipate and rejoice in their voices, movement, and presence in the pew.

We have created a dedicated, comfortable space in the transept (front/side of the sanctuary) for families (with children aged 3 and up accompanied by their adults) to enable them to participate in worship in their own way and respond through quiet play and art.

All Saints' Day

In worship on Nov. 1, we will give thanks for the ordinary, holy lives of believers in this and every age. In addition to remembering FPCA members who have died in the past year, it is our tradition to remember others who are known to our faith community. If you would like us to remember by name someone who has died in the past year, complete this form by noon on Friday, Oct. 30.

Rev. David Germer recently shared with us the difficult news that he has accepted a new call and will be moving to Houston, Texas. His last Sunday at FPCA will be Nov. 22. Read more about these changes here. Mark your calendars for Sunday, Nov. 15; we will have a congregational meeting at 10:40 am to dissolve the pastoral call, and following 11 am worship, there will be a reception to celebrate David, the Germer family, and their time with us.

New Church T-Shirts Available for Purchase

If you would like a shirt and didn't purchase one at the church retreat, many are still available! Email Shannon at life@fpcasheville.org with your T-shirt size and desired color (green, blue, or purple). Adult sizes are $20; child sizes are $15.

Stay in the Loop When Plans Change — Sign up for text messages!

We are beginning the process of having our church family opt in to text messages through Realm for timely updates about weather cancellations and other announcements we need to share quickly. We’ll use texts sparingly, so you can stay informed without feeling overwhelmed. To opt in, text “start” to 828-382-8752.

Questions? Email life@fpcasheville.org.

Changes in FPCA Parking Lot Management

FPCA has transitioned to a new company, Secure Park USA, to manage both the Church Street and Aston Street lots. You can't miss the new blue signage! Church members can continue to park in both lots at any time without charge while displaying a valid FPCA member sticker. Long-term, we plan to move from stickers to a license plate-based recognition system.

Reminder: Please do not park along the sidewalk in the upper church lot or in the circle drive by the entrance to the Wallace Foyer. This area is for pick-up and drop-off only.

If you have questions, please reach out to the church office or email life@fpcasheville.org.

Upcoming Events

Faith Formation on Sundays

  • Percolating Presbies meets at 9:30 am in the second floor youth suite.
  • Godly Play meets at 9:45 am on the first floor children's hall.
  • Text Talk meets at 9:45 am in Room 112.
  • Faith & Fellowship meets at 9:45 am in the ground floor fellowship hall. Join us this month as we explore how Scripture came together, why genre and context matter, and how these tools can help us appreciate the Bible’s beauty, complexity, and meaning more deeply so that it can speak into our lives today.

Gallery Exhibit: Found Object Art by Mary Callaway Logan

Mary Callaway Logan’s unique artwork brings disparate found objects together, transforming them into new and meaningful creations. Her work reflects a lifetime of exploration across religion (Yale Divinity School), art (Atlanta College of Art), psychology (30 years in pastoral counseling), and writing. In her words, “Found objects provoke a thoughtfulness, a beholding of each one in their ‘being’…. Surprised often, I find what is ‘found’ has a voice, and I must learn to listen.” An artist reception will be held in the gallery following 11 am worship on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Lunch Bunch will meet on Monday, Oct. 26, at 11:30 am at Pomodoros (1070 Tunnel Road). Lunch Bunch is a great time for fellowship and enjoying a good meal with others in the FPCA family. Restaurants have accessible parking. If you are interested in attending, RSVP to life@fpcasheville.org so we can reserve seating. We hope to see you there!

The Men's Group will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 9 am in Room 112. The FPCA Stitchers will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10 am in Room 214.

Church Street Organ Spooktacular on Friday, Oct. 30

All are invited to this progressive series of mini-organ recitals featuring spooooky music and decorations, costumed performers, Halloween caroling, and candy! The event begins at 5 pm at Central UMC; from there, a host will escort you to FPCA, then to Trinity Episcopal, where we’ll end at 6:15 pm. All are invited back to Central UMC after the recitals to attend their fall festival; costumes are encouraged for children and adults alike.

Mountains to Marsh: Trip to Charleston in April 2027

Don't miss this exciting opportunity to travel with the Chancel Choir and Racial

Justice Team to Charleston, S.C.! We’ll experience the boundary-breaking love of

Christ by building and strengthening relationships within FPCA, learning about

racial justice history and current challenges and work in Charleston, and using

our gifts and passion as we worship in a different setting, together. Find trip details and register here; sign up by Oct. 31. Contact Elizabeth LaJeunesse with any questions.

Faith & Fellowship in November — Held, Seen & Pieced Together

Every created being is creative, even those of us who would never call ourselves artists. We are made in the image of a Maker. As we prepare for Advent, when God took on ordinary flesh, we’ll spend time with three living artists. Read alongside scripture, their work helps us ask what it means to bear that image. This is not a lecture series. Each class is hands-on and interactive. We’ll look closely, talk together, and make something with our own hands. No artistic experience is needed, only curiosity. Faith & Fellowship meets at 9:45 am in the ground floor fellowship hall.

Presbyterian Women will gather on Monday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 am in Room 112, where Rev. Dr. Patrick Johnson will lead a discussion on how Christian freedom is shaped not by self-interest but by love, humility, and concern for others. All women are invited to join these monthly gatherings as we share in study, prayer, and conversation. Study booklets are available to purchase in the church office for $15. Email Sandra Strickland at life@fpcasheville.org for more information.

Still FLO (Young Adults) Serving with Saturday Sanctuary on Nov. 7

We will be trained together at 11:30 am, eat lunch with neighbors, serve together, and clean up after neighbors leave at 2 pm. Those who would like to can then venture together to a nearby spot for further fellowship and debriefing the experience. RSVP to David Germer by Nov. 3.

Join the Habitat Faith Build This Fall

This is the 33rd year that, together with other faith communities, FPCA is building a house for a local family. There are jobs for all skill levels (16 years and older), and we have reserved three work days for those who want to help build: Saturdays, Oct. 31 and Nov. 14, and Friday, Nov. 20. Other slots are also available. Monetary contributions are also welcome. Learn more here or contact Bill Winkler at life@fpcasheville.org.

Wednesday Night Dinners are for more than those participating in Wednesday evening programs! Small groups, committees, and anyone who would enjoy dinner and fellowship are welcome to join us. If you are not already registered as part of a Wednesday night program, such as Children’s Choir, RSVP to life@fpcasheville.org by Monday of the week you’re coming so we can plan for you. We will skip dinner on a few Wednesdays throughout the year to coordinate with other church ministries and school calendars, so check the weekly church calendar to see when dinner is being served.

Building Bridges Panel Discussions at FPCA — All are welcome!

We have been hosting the fall Building Bridges course here at FPCA, with a fantastic team of volunteers. Now through Nov. 2, panel discussions are open to our community, on Mondays from 6:30 to 8 pm in the FPCA fellowship hall. Here is the schedule of topics:

  • October 26: Racism and Anti-Racism in Healthcare in Asheville
  • November 2: Reparations in Asheville

The FPCA Racial Justice Team encourages anyone who is interested in learning more about anti-racism work in Asheville to attend as many of these sessions as possible! Contact David Germer with any questions.

Saturday Sanctuary

Every Saturday for roughly six months, we provide a warm meal and a safe and welcoming space to neighbors, building relationships and finding Jesus in our midst, right in the fellowship hall. Contact David Germer with questions or to be added to the email list.

Interested in joining FPCA? Our Session welcomes new members on the third Sunday of the month at 9:45 am. Our next opportunity will be Sunday, Nov. 15. For more information, please contact Nancy McNeill.

Serve

God has created each of us with gifts and interests and FPCA has a place for you to serve! To find out ways that you can serve that will make a difference AND feed your soul, please contact Shannon Jordan.

If you would like to deliver flowers to members after Sunday worship, deliver meals on Thursdays, or help drive people to church, contact Shannon to get involved.

If you enjoy greeting people and supporting the ministry of the church during the week, consider volunteering at the front desk to answer phones and welcome guests. Email your interest to Lucy Hazlehurst.

Looking for a place to serve on Sundays? We are adding to our usher teams, our scripture reader team, fellowship team, or children's ministry team. Reach out to Shannon for more info.
